Manny Machado is walking more than ever, but he is also striking out more than ever, hitting .225 on the season. He threw his big wad of gum at a bird yesterday, and his antics are much more disturbing when he is batting .225 than when he is hitting bombs. Ugh.

Mike Trout became the first Angel to homer in four straight games since 2012. Yulieski Gurriel hit a line drive 383 feet with an exit velocity of 108.5 mph to get the Astros’ first four runs last night. It was his second-hardest hit in the majors.

Gio Gonzalez did not allow a hit in five innings Thursday, walked one batter and struck out two. 33 of 49 pitches were strikes. Eddie Butler pitched four scoreless innings yesterday, allowing one hit and striking out four without walking a single batter. His ERA is now 2.70 in 10 spring innings. He is likely to win the last spot in the Cubs rotation.
So far this spring, Gonzalez has a .67 WHIP and has held batters to a .167 average. Nats GM Mike Rizzo feels that he has a closer in house, take a listen:
