Joaquin Benoit was crying about the fact that he doesn’t have a clear role after he allowed five earned runs and retired only one of the seven batters he faced in the seventh inning.

I believe if we have a set role, everybody will fall in place. I believe it would be better if everybody knows what their role is and when you’re going to contribute. If it’s the sixth, well, that person will throw the sixth. If it’s the ninth, that person will throw the ninth. One day I’m seventh. I’ve started in the sixth. I’ve been in the ninth, the eighth. Right now I’m all over the place. It’s a little bit [inconsistency] and not just the pitching staff, but the people that run it, too.Joaquin Benoit on his bullpen role

The Phillies have gone through three closers so far but Mackanin somehow still believes in his bullpen.

The Phillies bullpen has a 5.18 ERA with the most blown saves in the National League, eight. The only team in the majors with more blown saves are the Rays, nine.

  • April: .233 AVG, 2 HR, 8 RBI
  • May: .344 AVG, 2 HR, 7 RBI

Ryan Zimmerman struck out twice, grounded into a double play and went 0 for 5 last night. He is 1 for 14 since his 13-game hitting streak ended Monday

Nine of 12 home runs hit by Freddie Freeman this season have been solo home runs

Wade Miley has allowed 52 runners to reach base but only 10 of them have scored. His 2.45 ERA can’t last unless he keeps runners off the base paths.

Alex Bregman has a 10 game hitting streak, but only one of them was a multi-hit game. He is the only Astros position player without a home run on the season.

Aaron Judge is experiencing his first major league slump, going 4 for 16, but still leads the American League in home runs with 13

Brandon Belt is on pace to strikeout 195 times. That would break the franchise record of 189

Injury Updates

J.D. Martinez played all nine innings in his minor league rehab assignments on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but complained of soreness prior to the game Wednesday.

David Price will make his first rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday

On The Farm

Jose Berrios could be recalled to start Saturday’s game against the Indians. He has a 1.13 ERA and .81 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 39.2 innings pitched at Triple-A Rochester. The Twins might decide to send Nick Tepesch to the mound instead if they feel Berrios needs more time on the farm.

Eddie Butler is expected to pitch Friday, replacing the oft-injured Brett Anderson who hit the disabled list once again with back problems. Butler had a 1.17 ERA in five starts for Triple-A Iowa.
