Sean Newcomb has the ability to strike batters out, but will likely struggle with walks, as he issued 33 free passes in 54 ⅔ innings at Triple-A Gwinnett. He should see another start though, probably on Saturday at home against the Marlins.

Tyler Glasnow was sent down to Triple-A to make room for Jameson Taillon, who will start on Monday after three minor league rehab starts.

Last season, Jared Eickhoff pitched at least six innings in 23 of his 33 starts. This season, he hasn’t made it through six innings in seven of his last nine. He has given up seven runs over his last 7 ⅔ innings and sports a disappointing 5.15 ERA on the season.
Kyle Freeland hasn’t allowed more than one run in six of his 12 starts this season. He has the lowest ERA among rookie starters, at 3.34 and the four rookies in the Rockies rotation are 22-8 with a combined 3.61 ERA

J.D. Martinez has hit .297 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI since he was activated from the disabled list on May 12. If the Tigers decide to try and keep Martinez rather than trading him by the deadline, they risk him declining a qualifying offer and signing with another team. The problem is that the compensation pick they would get in return will be after round four because the Tigers exceed the competitive balance tax threshold of $195 million
The key to the Rockies rookie starting rotation is their ability to induce ground balls. Tony Wolters and his great pitch framing behind the plate is a nice added bonus.
Injury Updates
Cesar Hernandez went on the disabled list with an oblique strain. It is probably good since he wasn’t hitting very well recently. You just didn’t know because we are too busy talking about Maikel Franco, Odubel Herrera and the entire Phillies rotation struggles…
Logan Forsythe is batting .115 with 21 strikeouts in 16 games since returning from an extended stay on the disabled list.
Dallas Keuchel missed a start the last time his neck was bothering him and obviously that didn’t fix the problem. He is not even expected to throw a ball for at least a week.
