Taijuan Walker has 21 strikeouts and only one walk over 13 innings so far this spring

After the All Star Break last season, Zach Britton faced 112 hitters and earned one run. He has faced seven batters this spring with two earned runs

Nats GM Mike Rizzo feels that he has a closer in house, take a listen:

Koda Glover is one of the Nats ‘in house’ closer options. He entered the game in the ninth inning Thursday with the Nationals leading 3-1. He retired the Mets in order, hitting 97 on the gun as he struck out two. He has not allowed a run in six appearances this spring, striking out 10 while only walking one and holding batters to a .053 batting average against. Glover is a closer option in Washington.

Eduardo Nunez is entering his final season before free agency, which could mean that Christian Arroyo is just one year from serving as the Giants’ primary third baseman.

He’s already capable of handling all three positions,It’s really about getting his at-bats and facing higher-level pitching.GM Bobby Evans on Arroyo

Rockies manager Bud Black expects Ian Desmond back some time in April

Mark Reynolds will likely handle first base early in the year in lieu of Desmond.

Now the healing process begins. Mentally he’s doing great. We’re thinking that hopefully he will return to action in April.Manager Bud Black on Ian Desmond

Alex Dickerson  has been diagnosed with a disc protrusion in his back and is scheduled for re-evaluation in three to four weeks.

Obviously, it opens up opportunity for Jabari. We might start entertaining the idea of hitting fly balls to Cory Spangenberg to check his versatility level at this point in time, try to give ourselves as many options as possible going into the start of the season. In the next couple weeks, we’re going to bounce outfielders around a little more consistently. We’ll just try a number of different configurations and see what fits us best in the next few weeks.”

Green added that Padres will give Rule 5 infielder Allen Cordoba more looks in the outfield as well.

Zack Cozart is still coming up in trade rumors, but few clubs are looking for a shortstop right now so the Reds haven’t gotten many offers. The Padres are looking but are not keen on giving up top-tier talent for a player with only one year of club control remaining

Ildemaro Vargas could make the Diamondbacks opening day roster. Since he signed with the club in 2015 he has hit over .300 across all three minor league levels.

Yasmany Tomas has been diagnosed with a left oblique strain won’t be re-evaluated until next week at the earliest. Manager Lovello seems confident that Tomas can still be healthy by opening day.

Prospect Max Fried was impressive in three spring outings before being optioned to Double-A yesterday. He struck out five while allowing one hit over four innings.

Eddie Butler pitched four scoreless innings yesterday, allowing one hit and striking out four without walking a single batter. His ERA is now 2.70 in 10 spring innings. He is likely to win the last spot in the Cubs rotation.

Glen Perkins is throwing pain free every four days, nine months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. There is still no timetable for him to face live batters.

Gio Gonzalez  did not allow a hit in five innings Thursday, walked one batter and struck out two. 33 of 49 pitches were strikes. So far this spring, Gonzalez has a .67 WHIP and has held batters to a .167 average.
