Sale Discusses Contract

Today the Red Sox held their annual FanFest at Foxwoods  Resort and Casino. It’s an interactive gathering between players: (active and retired), executives, and Red Sox Nation. There are panels, booths and question and answer sessions.

Chris Sale was interviewed by WEEI , and he was asked about his mindset heading into the last season under his current contract.

He said he’s not worried about it, it is why he has an agent. He said if he followed it, it would swallow him up and engulf him. He said he handles things on a day to day basis; currently doing his workouts, heading into Spring Training, to get him ready for Opening Day.

Sale will be making $13.5 million this season, and will no doubt look to get a major pay increase at season’s end as a free agent before the 2020 season.
It remains to be seen if the Sox will be in the mix to re-sign their Ace lefty. As of now, the Sox will have $125 million coming off the books heading into the 2020 season, so they will have the money to earmark for him, but it’s questionable whether or not they’ll want to commit to Sale who’ll be entering his age 31 season.

But, seeing what they were willing to pay David Price,  (7yr/217M), I’m sure Sale’s agent will be looking to make Sale one of the games highest paid pitchers.
