RESPECT

It’s important to give credit where credit is due.

Congratulations to the four newest members of the Hall of Fame:

And especially:

Congratulations to the first man to receive 100% of vote. That’s quite an accomplishment, and definitely well-deserved.

I think my fondest memory of Rivera was Opening Day of 2005 at Fenway Park. One by one, Yankee players were being introduced to a chorus of rousing boos. And then Rivera’s name was called. He bounded out of the dugout to a thunderous standing ovation.

Of course, the year before, it was Rivera who blew the pivotal games which helped the Sox come back from a historic 3-0 deficit. Red Sox Nation was letting Rivera know how much they “appreciated” his efforts.

Understanding the moment, Rivera stepped forward, took his cap off, and with the biggest and most joyful smile he could muster, acknowledged the throngs of Red Sox fans.

It takes a special kind of person to do what Rivera did on that day; a man worthy of getting 100% support.
