Reds News and Season Predictions

The Reds add a third arm to the rotation this off-season again in the form of trade. Cincinnati acquired Sonny Gray from the Yankees in exchange for second base prospect Shed Long.

Gray will complement other off-season acquisitions Alex Wood and Tanner Roark and provides the Reds with yet another established pitcher in the rotation.

In terms of a season outlook for the Reds, here are my projections for the club assuming everyone has a full and healthy season.

Rotation

  1. Sonny Gray (12-7, 3.82 ERA)
  2. Alex Wood (14-9, 3.35 ERA)
  3. Luis Castillo (10-9, 4.05 ERA)
  4. Tanner Roark (9-12, 4.23ERA)
  5. Anthony DeSclafani (10-14, 4.53 ERA)

Projected Opening Day Lineup

Position Player Name (Batting Average, Home Runs, RBI)

  1. SS Jose Peraza (.289, 8, 53)
  2. LF Jesse Winker (.304, 13, 73)
  3. 1B Joey Votto (.315, 25, 97)
  4. 3B Eugenio Suarez (.291, 33, 115)
  5. CF Yasiel Puig (.276, 31, 101)
  6. 2B Scooter Gennett (.267, 23, 83)
  7. RF Matt Kemp (.280, 27, 88)
  8. C Tucker Barnhart (.251, 7, 50)
  9. Pitchers Spot

Scott Schebler will also be used frequently off the bench, I predict he will be new manager David Bell‘s favorite bench bat and will hit .252 with 13HR and 29RBI off the bench this year and serving as a utility outfielder.
