Player Notes MLB 09-23

MLB PLAYER NOTES SEPT 23

Atlanta was only a half-game behind the Mets a few days before the All-Star break.

Hector Olivera is hitting second in a weak Braves batting order…The future is now.

Michael Conforto ties Michael Taylor with six assists. Of course, Taylor has played in many more games than Conforto. Chris Coghlan and Billy Hamilton are the only other outfielders who have at least six assists and zero errors.

Cody Asche has hit four home runs in his last eight games.

Bryce Harper has walked 118 times. The second most walks on Washington is Yunel Escobar, who has only walked 42 times.

Jay Bruce has hit 25 home runs four years in a row. Only five other Reds have hit 25 home runs four years in a row.

Mark Melancon has 49 saves. Only eleven closers have saved 50 or more games in one season.

The Pirates have a 34-17 record in one-run games, which is the best in MLB.

Thomas Pham is hitting .407 with nine RBI and eight extra-base hits since he was added to the lineup eight days ago.

Lance Lynn may be out of the Cardinals playoff rotation after posting a 5.11 ERA in his last five starts.

Tyson Ross, Matt Kemp and Justin Upton all have good stats, but the Padres stink.

Luis Severino threw first pitch strikes to 17-of-21 batters…much better than expected.

Yankees leads MLB with 119 runs scored in the first inning.

Jose Quintana has allowed exactly one earned run in each of his last three starts.

Mike Trout hit his 40th home run…the last Angel to hit 40 home runs was Troy Glaus.

Hisashi Iwakuma has allowed one ER off 10 hits, with nineteen strikeouts and only one walk over his last 13 innings…free agent bonanza is coming.

Robinson Cano has hit 18 home runs since June 22 and should be a bargain in 2016.
