Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts will be a free agent after the 2019 season. Jackie Bradley Jr. (JBJ), will be one after the 2020 season. Each are represented by “super agent” Scott Boras.
Scott Boras on the Nationals leaving the door open to re-sign Bryce Harper: “I think when they say the door is open, I would certainly pay attention to what they say” pic.twitter.com/U7gO5KJ0Ul

If I were them, I’d ask teammate J.D. Martinez how happy he is with his current contract. Martinez received 5 years, $110 million, far less than the $200 million Boras wanted for his client.
When the smoke clears from the Bryce Harper sweepstakes there’s a good chance he’ll end up with far less than the $3oo million he reportedly turned down. The Nationals are no longer pursuing Harper.
At this stage of the game, it doesn’t look like he’s going to break any records; either in AAV or in overall package, which is what he wants.
“Who are the real threats to the Phillies for Bryce Harper? Maybe not the Nats, maybe Chicago, maybe some other team.”
Point is that there’s not really a market for Harper, so the Phils are in an advantageous spot here. No need to go crazy. Wait out Boraspic.twitter.com/EYUO73aNxo

- The highest paying contract in history is Giancarlo Stanton at 13 years $325 million.
- The highest AAV is Zack Greinke who’s annual salary is just short of 35M, at 34.4M.
It’s obvious Harper wants at least 10 years at $35 million per year, $350 million.
Boras is probably asking for a 13yr/450M deal. If I had the ear of Bogaerts and Bradley Jr, I’d tell them to pay close attention and be careful of the representation they get from Boras.
