Baseball Chatter 07/25

Lenny says that the reason Zack Greinke is pitching so well this season is because he has good catchers behind the plate and while I do love giving credit to the role of the catcher…

Greinke is 9-0 at one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in baseball. His command is simply amazing this year. He is not allowing runners on the base paths, simple as that.

R.A Dickey:

Brad Peacock saw a doctor in California during the off-season who discovered bone spurs in his upper back that pinched a nerve. Because bone spurs are not normally found in the upper back the doc refused to do surgery. Peacock found a doc in Chicago who did do surgery and he has been a much better pitcher ever since.

  • The bad news is that he walks 5.02 batters per nine.
  • The good news is that he strikes out 12.18 batters per nine with a 2.51 ERA over 71 innings.

Jaime Garcia looks to get his first start for the Twins on Friday in Oakland.

Teams

Houston has the best run differential in baseball after they beat the Reds by nine runs last night. The interesting part is that the Astros have scored nearly 100 runs more than any other team on the road this season.

The Orioles have won six of their last eight games

Reds starting pitchers have given up 171 home runs this season, including 25 in the last 11 games

The Dodgers have won 21 of their last 24 and 47 straight when they have the lead at some point in the game.

The Twins are 23-31 with the worst run differential at home in the majors, -66.

Remember when the Royals went 10-20 in April? They are 41-27 since.

Rockies need some bullpen help thanks to the fact that their rookie starters can’t make it past the fourth or fifth inning

Injury Updates

Wilson Ramos left the game after he was hit with a broken bat, needed six staples.

Alex Meyer hit the disabled list yesterday with the same nagging right shoulder problems

Justin Bour left the game with a right oblique strain yesterday, likely to spend some time on the disabled list
