Baseball Chatter – Memorial Day 2018

Josh Hader is the most talked about player of the day.

Really? Just how well does he have to pitch to win the Cy Young?

The answer is that he has to pitch as good or better as these pitchers did.

Gleyber Torres is batting fifth for the Yankees. Let us just go ahead and get this out of the way. I was wrong and you were right. Gleyber is paying dividends to those who swooped in.

Willie Calhoun was benched yesterday for no hustle

Dennis Santana is a Dodgers pitcher moving quickly through the minors. He is owned in less than 10% of Fantrax leagues. Time to stash.

Trevor Bauer is something. I wish I owned him. Back at the beginning of the month, Bauer made a comment about how the Houston Astros pitchers’ spin rates have increased substantially. Started a war of words that I have been missing since Bauer stopped tweeting a while back. Keep it up Bauer…Love it. He has found a home in Cleveland and a great manager in Francona. He works harder at perfecting his craft than any other pitcher I have ever seen. He is a big fan of our great country and he isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. Baseball and the world needs more Bauers..

You might want to consider taking trade offers for Patrick Corbin. His FB velocity is still not what it was in April and it is beginning to affect his ability to strike out hitters.

Dan Jennings cares nothing about velocity. Have a look

Donnie Baker is happy to hear that sports gambling is now going to be legal. He is looking for investors…

Russell Martin is playing left field today against the Red Sox

Injury Inferno

The injury Ronald Acuna suffered yesterday is so hard to watch. Anyone who has the courage to watch probably agrees that the near future is not bright for the young star. He is in a wheelchair, that is all we know.

After missing the last five games due to back spasms, Matt Davidson was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to May 25. He is eligible to return Monday June 4.

Mets placed both AJ Ramos and Wilmer Flores on the 10-day disabled list. Flores has lower back soreness and Ramos for a shoulder strain that may or may not be an excuse to utilize the phantom DL.

Another phantom DL trip was taken by Greg Holland, I mean he has a right hip impingement.

Yu Darvish is back on the disabled list with tricep tendonitis and will have some tests run this afternoon

Ivan Nova hits the DL with a sprained right finger

Santiago Casilla has a right shoulder strain

Andrew Miller went on the DL because of inflammation in his right knee. Manager Terry Francona thinks he has been dealing with it for quite some time and blames the injury for Miller’s shaky start this season.
