That leaves Brandon McCarthy and Alex Wood still battling for the fifth and final rotation job, though both will end up on the MLB roster. The starting rotation will consist of Clayton Kershaw, Kenta Maeda, Rich Hill, McCarthy and Ryu.
Trevor Williams and Tyler Glasnow compete for the fifth spot in the Pirates rotation after Drew Hutchison was optioned to Triple-A yesterday. Glasnow is expected to have the higher ceiling of the two, but Williams has been impressive.
Trevor Williams yesterday: 4IP, 0ER, 0R, 2HA, 6K, 0BB
Trevor Williams on the Spring: 17IP, 18K, 4ER, 2BB, 2.04 ERA, .91 WHIP
There are now four possibilities for the final two spots in the Yankees rotation:
The fourth starter has already been decided upon, even though Girardi has not announced it yet. The Yankees will not be telling us who their fifth starter is before opening day either, and maybe not until they need a fifth starter in mid-April.
Yandy Diaz played third base and hit a three-run homer to take a 4-3 lead yesterday. He is hitting .429 (18-for-42) with two homers and 13 RBI this spring but still has not been officially named the starting third baseman.
JaCoby Jones will have the opportunity to strut his stuff in center field while J.D. Martinez is out with injury. Tyler Collins and Mikie Mahtook will platoon in right.
Houston leads off with four righties in a row. George Springer, Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa. Beltran is a switch hitter, he bats fifth.
Just in case you have been hiding under a rock, Cam Bedrosian will start the season as the Angels closer.
Cesar Hernandez stole his sixth base in six attempts yesterday which matters because he was barely successful half the time last season. (56% success rate). He has the ability to steal an absurd number of bases and should not be overlooked in your league. Seriously. Draft him a round early if you have to. He is going to be something beautiful.
Jarrett Parker will be the 10th left fielder in 10 seasons to start for the Giants on opening day since the club disentangled itself from Barry Bonds.
Michael Wacha this spring:
- 2.42 ERA
- 22 K
- 26 IP
- 97 MPH FB
