Baseball Chatter July 12

Welcome to the second half of Fantasy Baseball 2019. That’s right, we don’t quit around here. In fact, we talk Baseball every single day in our house. Even on Christmas and Thanksgiving and Haunakuh and Yom Kippur- you get the point.

Over the next week or so I am spending some time taking inventory of my teams and taking a look back at my drafts to see what is working and what is not. Also, I am currently in first place in one league. That would be lovely if I played in three leagues. That isn’t the case my friends.

Does the fact that it is a best ball league say anything about my ability to run a team? Possibly. It could be all about my strategy to draft heavy on pitchers. I drafted Trevor Bauer, Jacob deGrom, Zack Greinke, Corey Kluber, Kenley Jansen, Blake Treinen, Will Smith, and Jordan Hicks. Kluber was drafted in the

That Guy told us about this in our live chat room during Lenny’s Daily Podcast this morning. You know you are surrounded by true fans when there is money flying and people don’t even notice it because they want the baseball so bad.

Marcus Stroman has taken anything and everything Toronto Blue Jays off his social media profiles including Instagram and Twitter. He may have already cleaned out his locker but even if he hasn’t physically cleaned the stuff out of his locker in Toronto, he might as well have.

I know I am tough on Stroman. I admit I have been very wrong about his stats this season. I am also going to go out on a limb here and say that I don’t blame him for being disappointed in the Blue Jays organization and I don’t blame him for having already mentally checked out.

I give him credit for being realistic about his future with the Blue Jays and he looks forward to his next opportunity. He loves New York. The Yankees are interested.

A match made in Heaven. So let’s get on with it. The Red Sox still haven’t added a closer. Go Padres. Go Braves. Anyone but the Yankees.

LET US TALK ABOUT BOOBS

Let’s talk about real boobs now, spiced up with a little sexual preference, and equal pay.

So, yesterday was the annual ESPY awards and of course, the United States National Women’s Team (USNWT) is going to get a ton of media coverage at this event. Rightfully so, nobody in the world has been able to beat this team. They are by far the best NWT to ever grace a field anywhere at any time ever.

Megan Rapinoe wore nothing under her way to big and made for a man (probably made for a man) suit jacket. Is it safe to assume she wanted her entire boob out on display for the world to see? Is there even a possibility she thought her nipple wouldn’t show? What cryptic message is she telling and who is she sending it to?

There is a statement, otherwise, she would have put a bra on or a nice undershirt, or just wore something that fits.

Neither the WNBA nor the USNWT has an audience for the most part. Nobody talks about their sport unless they do something extremely great, like represent the USA on an international stage and win. The USNWT has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated three times in the past four years and SI is published weekly.

If you are looking to get a pay raise, you can’t just get it by showing your boob anymore Megan. I thought you knew. Try this: If you want to get paid as much as someone else, then bring as much profit to the company as they do.

Unless you hear or see someone saying or doing something that you believe qualifies as bigoted, you are not qualified to spew out accusations as if you have anything that even remotely resembles confidence. It isn’t a little thing, the way you judge other people.

Don’t judge people based on someone else’s perception of them. Don’t be an ignorant sheep. Stop with the identity politics already and start being proud and grateful that can act like an ignorant entitled asshole every day if you choose to.

We should all Assess our enemy list a couple of times a year, like the idea of spring cleaning but this one you actually do.

Injury Updates:

An injury that interests me a bunch lately is that of Jamison Taillon (PIT-SP) He has been out since April with what is being referred to as a flexor tendon strain in his throwing elbow.

He first noticed the problem during spring training, but pitched through the discomfort until it landed him on the IL  On May 20 Taillon was diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon in his elbow. He continues to feel symptoms.

“We still are optimistic, but the body hasn’t recovered the way we hoped, These last couple of weeks there’s been some steady progression. We’ll get him out and throwing, see how the arm responds. Hopefully, as he’s feeling now, we’ll continue to build good day upon good day.” – Manager Neal Huntington

“I don’t feel much, just standing here talking to you. But if I would stress it … it doesn’t feel as good as I’d hope it would now.” -Taillon

I wondered how much this “flexor tendon strain” has in common with Tommy-John surgery. Both injuries of the elbow. Does a sprained tendon in the elbow have an adverse effect on the health of the ulnar collateral ligament? I don’t even know the difference between a tendon and a ligament so I started there.

I am going to be pleasantly surprised if this injury suddenly changes course and I see Taillon starting a game for the Pirates in 2019. EXTREMELY.

And going forward, should Taillon need another Tommy John surgery, should we jump ship and sell him for pennies on the dollar in our dynasty leagues?

Definitive NO

Be the guy buying him for pennies on the dollar because one thing we know for sure is how this guy Taillon deals with adversity. He has already come back from Tommy John Surgery, hernia and cancer.

He got hit in the head with a 105 mph line drive. He doesn’t give up and his talent for pitching can’t be questioned.
