Arizona

• Zack Godley held the Dodgers to eight hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one
• Jake Lamb was hitting .143 against lefties before he smacked two homers last night. He leads the team with 90 RBI

Atlanta

• The Braves have lost 15 of their last 21, and 10 of 12 games to the Phillies this season
• Julio Teheran gave up five runs in five innings, lost his eighth consecutive home decision
  • Teheran is 1-8 with a majors-worst 7.08 ERA in 12 starts at home

• Johan Camargo will miss a couple weeks with a bruised right knee, but will avoid surgery.
• Dansby Swanson will get the call before today’s game

Baltimore

• Jeremy Hellickson pitched his second straight quality start since joining the Orioles on July 28. His ERA is 2.08
• Manny Machado hit his third homer in the past four games.
  • He’s driven in 12 runs in his past five games
  • He is hitting .376 with a .418 OBP over the last month
  • August was Machado’s most productive month offensively last season, when he hit 10 home runs and drove in 25

Chicago Sox

• The Sox have three of the top 30 ranked prospects in baseball and could still use Avisail Garcia to acquire more befor the end of the season
  • Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Blake Rutherford

Chicago Cubs

• Javier Baez is hitting .309 with six homers and a .997 OPS since the break

Cincinnati

• Sal Romano throws his fastball 66 percent of the time, the third-highest rate among big-league starters with at least 500 pitches thrown.

• • Five of the top 10 in that category are rookies, including the top three.
  • Another two are second-year pitchers.

Cleveland

• Michael Brantley left the game in the fifth inning with a sprained left ankle.
• Corey Kluber has struck out at least eight in 13 straight starts.

• • Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez are the only two pitches with that long of a streak.

Colorado

• The Rockies are 49-17 this season when scoring the first run in the game, 17-32 when giving it up.
• German Marquez has a 2.42 ERA over six consecutive quality starts, including four wins
• Gerrado Parra has taken over the cleanup role in Colorado, hitting behind Nolan Arenado and ahead of Mark Reynolds.
  • Parra has 71 home runs over nine seasons.

Detroit

• Justin Upton, Miguel Cabrera, and Nick Castellanos, the 3-4-5 hitters in these two games were 0-for-19. Vs Pittsburgh
• Jeimer Candelario was sent back down to Toledo to make room for Jose Iglesias, who returns from the bereavement list today.

Houston

• It took Dallas Keuchel 91 pitches to get through four innings.
  • His command was absent for a third consecutive start, since returning from neck injury

Kansas City

• Alex Gordon will sit for the next few days in an attempt to hit the reset button. He is 2-for-20 this month with a .197 average.

Los Angeles Angels

• Parker Bridwell has a 3.00 ERA over 66 innings and the Angels are now 10-1 in games when he pitches.

• Andrew Heaney’s next outing could be in the majors. Heaney has pitched five times in the minors in his rehab assignment who is just beyond 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery,

• Yunel Escobar hits the disabled list for the second time this season, is expected to miss two to three weeks.
  • Third base will be a ‘mix and match’ of players while he is out.

Los Angeles Dodgers

• The Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw are not giving any timetable for his return.
  • “false” reporting when a 4- to 6-week estimate was put on it.

Florida

• Giancarlo Stanton now has more home runs this season than he has in any other season, and the most in the majors.

Milwaukee

• Brewers relievers lead the majors with 29 losses.

Minnesota

• 1.5 games back in the American League wild-card race
• Adalberto Mejia walked off the mound with a trainer after 64 pitches. He will miss a couple weeks with left lateral upper arm pain

New York Mets

• Travis d’Arnaud has shown improvement in the second half, looking to keep his job as the starting catcher next season
• Matt Harvey is optimistic he will pitch again this season. In fact Harvey said he would “probably do a rehab start” within “the next week or so.”

 

New York Yankees

• The Yankees are concerned that if Jordan Montgomery surpasses 180 innings it might lead to future problems, so they sent him down to Triple-A Sunday.
  • Montgomery could be recalled if C.C. Sabathia lands on the DL.

 

Oakland

• Matt Olson will platoon with Ryon Healy at first base, getting all of the starts against right-handed pitchers

 

San Francisco

• Ty Blach has allowed 10 home runs in 128 innings
  • He leads among National League pitchers, allowing .70 home runs per nine
  • He only strikes out .4.32 batters per nine

Pittsburgh

• Chad Kuhl and Trevor Williams put up consecutive quality starts and the Pirates got their fifth win in six games.

 

St. Louis

• Seven home runs in the last three games
• Michael Wacha struck out five over six innings and earned his sixth win over his last seven decisions with a 2.22 ERA
  • He is 6-0 in August in his career, the only active pitcher with at least 10 starts who can make that claim.

Tampa Bay

• 6½ games back in the American League East race, staying even with the Royals in the second wild-card race
• Rays have scored a total of two runs over their last four games, going 0-for-24 with runners in scoring position

Texas

• Rangers rank second in the majors with 174 homers. Astros have 182.
• Rangers starting pitchers have allowed 154 homers, eighth most in the majors.

Toronto

• Josh Donaldson has 11 XBH over his last 19 games.

Washington

 

• Brian Goodwin ranks second among National League rookies, with 20 doubles.
  • Goodwin has played in 70 games this season, more than Trea Turner, more than Jayson Werth, and two fewer than Michael A. Taylor.
