Arizona Diamondbacks

  • Robbie Ray could return to the mound Friday
  • Zack Godley earned two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight, walked four, threw three wild pitches and hit a batter.
Atlanta Braves
  • Snapped a five-game skid
  • R.A. Dickey didn’t give up a run until the seventh inning
    • In the Braves’ past 25 games, their starters have lasted seven innings just four times, three of those by Dickey.
  • Brandon Phillips hit a two-run homer
  • Aroldys Vizcaino pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth
Baltimore Orioles
  • 3-4 on their road trip.
    • A sweep of Seattle at Safeco Field is the only way the Orioles can return to Baltimore with a winning road trip and a winning record.
  • Jeremy Hellickson recorded his first nine outs on 24 pitches and then gave up five runs in the fourth inning
  • Orioles had 24 extra-base hits in the four-game series: 16 doubles, two triples and six home runs.

Chicago White Sox
  • Derek Holland entered yesterday 1-5 with a 7.71 ERA over his last nine starts
    • He earned seven runs on seven hits over two innings. He walked three and struck out two
Cincinnati Reds
  • Sal Romano’s fastball is the only pitch he trusts to get a strike, and on Tuesday he wasn’t able to throw that pitch at the bottom of the zone as much as he needed to.

Cleveland Indians
  • Corey Kluber pitched seven innings and struck out nine. He has 14 straight starts with at least eight strikeouts

Colorado Rockies

    • fell below .500 on the road for the first time all season, at 30-31.
  • Nolan Arenado was hit in the hand by a pitch and had to leave the game. Good news is that no bones are broken
    • X-rays came back negative and the Rockies are calling it a contusion, essentially a bruise.
Whenever you get hit in the hand, it scares you, It hurt real bad. It got real tight. That was my concern — how tight it was getting. Luckily it’s not broken, but it hurts a little bit.Arenado

  • Arenado will likely have to miss a few games, but hopes to avoid the disabled list.

  • German Marquez entered yesterday with six quality starts, a 2.45 ERA and a 4-0 record
    • Gave up five runs on seven hits and needed 90 pitches (just 57 strikes) to get into the fifth inning.

  • Whit Merrifield hit his 14th homer and drove in five— Frank White is the only second baseman in franchise history with more in a season.

    • He has lowered his ERA from 4.95 to 3.76 since June 9
  • Joc Pederson hit only three balls to the opposite field in August compared to 12 in July. His hard-hit rate has plummeted
  • Clayton Kershaw threw 48 pitches from the bullpen mound for the second time in three days Sunday.
    • He threw 30 on Friday

  • Ryan Braun has recorded multiple hits in seven of his last eight games.
    • He had 12 multi-hit games in his first 57 games of the season.

    • He got the final four outs for his first major league save
