Angels
  • Have scored 60 runs and hit .294 in their past nine games.
  • The Angels can thank their bullpen for giving them a glimmer of hope to make the post-season, but they gave up six runs in the ninth yesterday, and blew the lead for the second Sunday in a row.
  • Blake Parker ended his streak at 27 outings without allowing an earned run at home.
Astros
  • The Astros put on their rally caps and scored four runs in the ninth inning, beating the Blue Jays 7-6
  • Alex Bregman has an extra base hit in each of the last eight games, which is the third-longest streak in team history and first since 2006.
  • Chris Devenski has 7 ER in his last 9 ⅔ innings A.J. Hinch says he struggles with command of his fastball and slider.
Braves
  • Lucas Sims has allowed three homers in 12 major league innings and 19 in 115 1/3 innings at Triple-A

    • His batting average is still .198
  • Jon Lester allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings
Diamondbacks
  • 5-for-30 (.167) with runners in scoring position in the series
  • 15 for 84 (.179) with runners in scoring position on their 10-game road trip through three cities
  • Hitting .223 since June 25
  • Still have a five-game lead on a wild-card spot
Dodgers
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed only one hit and struck out eight over seven scoreless innings and the Dodgers won 8-0
    • Retired 21 of the 22 including the first four batters he faced.
    • 3.53 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 17 starts

 

Giants
Indians
  • Have scored one run or fewer for the 21st time this season.
    • Last season they reached 68 wins before they had their 50th loss.
  • Jason Kipnis struck out three times in four plate appearances

 

Marlins
  • J.T. Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run
    • He is hitting .306/.366/.489, with 13 homers, 45 RBI, five stolen bases and 50 runs
  • Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run
    • Has hit three home runs in his past seven games
    • 26 HR, 87 RBI, 63 R and a .306/.364/.553 slash line on the season
  • Jose Urena allowed one run on three hits and walked one while striking out three through six innings
    • Urena continues to impress and now sports a rock-solid 3.70 ERA and 1.19 WHIP to go along with his 10 wins. He only strikes out 6.2 per nine.

Nationals
  • Matt Wieters went 1-for-3 with a homer and five RBI. He is still having a rotten season

  • Ubaldo Jiménez pitched well for the third straight time.
Padres
  • Clayton Richard allowed four runs on five hits and one walk across six innings, but none of those four runs were earned. He struck out five.
Pirates
  • Jameson Taillon allowed two runs on five hits walked two in 6 ⅓ innings. He struck out eight.
  • Felipe Rivero blew his first save, allowing two runs on two hits and walked two.
Phillies
  • Maikel Franco went 2-for-4 with a solo home run
    • .230/.285/.407 is down across the board compared to his .255/.306/.427 output in 2016.
  • Aaron Nola limited the Rockies to two runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over seven strong innings in Sunday’s no-decision at Coors Field.

Reds
  • Homer Bailey allowed 10 runs on 10 hits and four walks across 3.1 innings
    • He is 3-6 with an ERA of 8.86.
    • That is not what $19 million is supposed to buy, even in this era of superheated salaries for starting pitchers.
Red Sox

  • Entered yesterday:
    • 59-0 when leading after eight innings this season.
    • They were 14-6 in one-run games, including a trio of one-run victories on the current homestand.
    • Greg Holland 34-1 in save opportunities.

    • Greg Holland is 34-2
    • Half game in front of the D-Backs and 5.5 games in front of the Brewers
  • Jeff Hoffman pitched seven innings allowed one run on four hits, struck out eight and walked one.
    • Hoffman (6-3, 5.03 ERA) said his curveball had not been as effective since May 22 at Philadelphia when he pitched seven innings, allowed one run on three hits and whiffed seven.
    • Antonio Senzatela is back in the rotation and Tyler Chatwood has been sent to the bullpen.
      • Taking the spot of rookie left-hander Kyle Freeland (DL)
      • Chatwood 6-12 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
      • Senzatela is scheduled to start Wednesday

Tigers
  • Victor Martinez:
    • Came into the season a career .300 hitter from both sides of the plate (.299 right-handed).
    • recorded his 2,000th career hit a couple of weeks ago. But this year, other than the month of May, nothing is working. Since going 3 for 4 on July 29, he’s gone 3 for 29, including an 0-for-5 on Sunday. He’s 3 for 15 with runners in scoring position in that stretch.
    • Hitting .318 with a .936 OPS in May
White Sox
  • Yoan Moncada went 5-for-17 with three walks in the series vs. the Red Sox.
    • He struck out five times giving him 21 strikeouts since getting called up July 19.
