Julio Teheran has given up seven homers over his last 13 innings, He isn’t even pitching well on the road anymore

When approached about moving to third base to make room for Ozzie Albies, Brandon Phillips said he needed to think about it. Actions spoke loud and clear when he showed up early to take ground balls at third base. I don’t blame Phillips for not talking to the media. He can’t stand the media and I don’t blame him. Take a look at his stats, they tell you everything you need to know.

“There was a lot (for Phillips) to process yesterday; I get that. We come back from a 12-day road trip and wake up and somebody gets called up to play second base and we want you to play third. But he wrapped his arms around it, he was out here working early with Wash. I talked to him (later Tuesday) afternoon, he wants to play. He’s a ballplayer. I’m glad. He’ll do a great job there. It’ll be good for us to have him over there.(Third base) could be less taxing than playing second, with the diving and the range that he plays. He can react right there. He has the good hands and the accurate arm, all that kind of stuff. He possesses all the tools. I’m hoping this ends up being a good thing for him in his career and for us and everybody. It’s good for our club because he fills a valuable spot hitting second all the time, And like I say, he can play third, he’s a baseball player. I said, ‘Brandon, you probably could go play anywhere on the diamond, you’re a ballplayer.’ Manager Brian Snikter

Jesse Winker hit another home run, tying his total at Triple-A after 299 at bats this season. Last season he totaled five home runs in 468 plate appearances across two minor league levels. Oh, and he doesn’t steal any bases.

Reynaldo Lopez is the 23-year-old White Sox minor-league pitcher of the month. He is waiting to get the call up. He is 6-6 with a 3.65 ERA, and 122 strikeouts in 116 innings at Triple-A. He walks a bunch of batters though, and that will likely get worse before it gets better.

Lucas Giolito, Carson Fulmer, and Tyler Danish are also Sox prospect pitchers knocking down the door… The current rotation of Derek Holland, Miguel Gonzalez, Carlos Rodon, James Shields and Mike Pelfrey are lending a helping hand to their call up dates

Tyler Chatwood can claim the ‘biggest meltdown of the Rockies’ 2017 season’ award after he took and threw away a 5-0 lead by giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. The Rockies are now trailing the Diamondbacks a half game.

Rockies batters are hitting well:

  • Carlos Gonzalez hit a homer for the first time in 76 at bats since June 20. That makes seven. He also has a .326 average in the midst of an 11-game hit streak
  • DJ LeMahieu has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, including three straight multi-hit games, batting .366.
  • Gerardo Parra has a hit in 12 of the last 13 games, and 17 of his last 20.

Jeremy Hellickson tossed seven scoreless innings for the Orioles’ fifth straight win and swept the Royals. Since they acquired Hellickson, Orioles starters have a combined .76 ERA in 35 ⅔ innings, five starts.

At 24 years old, Is Mookie Betts best season already behind him? Listen to Mookie tell it….

JC Ramirez has had a sneaky good season pitching for the Angels.

  • 3.97 ERA over 21 starts
  • Last five GS: ERA – 1.93

Teams

The Cubs’ starting rotation is 11-2 with a 2.61 ERA since the break after going 29-33 with a 4.66 ERA before it.

Brad Ausmus on the possibility of six man rotation ROS “I haven’t thought about it,” he said. “I don’t think it’s far-fetched. It would depend on where the team is at and how guys are pitching at the time. It would depend on the health of the other guys.

The Angels have scored 37 runs in the last five games and actually only trail the Royals by three games.
The only team the Dodgers struggle against is the Braves and the only team the Braves can beat is the Dodgers. They have only won four of their last 16 games, and three were against the Dodgers.
