Baseball Chatter 06/07

Jason Heyward hit a walk-off grand slam last night. He is hitting .355 with five RBI and one home run since he was moved to second in the batting order. He is finally Fantasy Baseball relevant.

Red Sox fans were using their cell phone flashlights in the centerfield bleachers and it was blinding hitters so they had to stop the game to get the fans to stop.

Bartolo Colon earned win number 243 to tie hall of fame pitcher Juan Marichal.

Ian Desmond hit a two-run home run last night and is now hitting .265 with four home runs, 12 RBI, nine runs and a stolen base over the last two weeks, including 2 home runs, six RBI, and seven runs in the past week.

Last week it was reported Felipe Vazquez was having forearm discomfort. Last night he earned the save despite walking two and has blown four of the last six save opportunities. There is a good chance he is pitching through an injury and we all know where that leads…

The Phillies have been struggling with their defensive shifts even after Jake Arrieta called the team out last week.

This time Kris Bryant took advantage of the Phillies shift woes when he attempted to steal second and made it all the way to third

The Diamondbacks acquired Jon Jay from the Royals for two minor leaguers. Jay will see regular at-bats while A.J. Pollack and Steven Souza remain out with injuries. He is hitting .307 with 18 RBI, 26 runs scored and three steals in 238 at-bats this season.

Carlos Gonzalez tripped as he came around second base, but he still made it back to the bag in time due to a miscommunication in the Reds outfield.

A youngster brought a sign to the game saying “I want to play catch with Austin Meadows” and Meadows played catch with him and then gave him the baseball

Injuries

Shohei Ohtani exited last night after the fourth inning because of a blister on his right middle finger. It is the same spot as earlier this season when he missed two starts because of it.

Carlos Correa came out of the game after his at-bat in the seventh inning because of soreness in his side. He will be evaluated further today

After walking the only batter he faced, Tony Cingrani exited the game due to a sharp pain in his shoulder. Stay tuned…
