Player News

Joey Gallo hit two homers last night, one being the longest and hardest hit home run of the season, there is little doubt that he will remain in the Rangers lineup even after Adrian Beltre returns to third base. Gallo can play both left and right field as well as first base. Gallo leads the team with five home runs and ranks second with 13 RBI. Longest HR: 116 mph, 462 ft

Bob Melvin has not officially named a closer in Oakland, but Santiago Casilla got his third save last night.

We’re trying to find some order with it, Casilla seems to be getting better and better. His commands better, a little better velocity, sharper breaking ball. Bob Melvin

Jason Kipnis was activated last night, batting sixth in the lineup. He batted second in 678 plate appearances last season. Lindor, who batted third last season, already has 75 plate appearances in the number two hole, and he isn’t likely going anywhere.

The White Sox have scored one run in Jose Quintana’s last three starts combined. In Quintana’s 155 career starts since 2012, the White Sox have provided one run or less 38 times

Amed Rosario, recently named the top prospect in baseball, played third base at Triple-A last night. Expect the Mets to call him up soon, even though some would argue that Rosario is no where near ready. Jose Reyes has been horrible, and obviously the Mets can’t keep Reyes in the lineup if he doesn’t get it together soon.

Jedd Gyorko went 3 for 7 with a home run batting fourth last night. He only hit fourth twice last season. The Cardinals have no idea who should bat fourth as they had eight different hitters bat fourth last season and Gyorko was the sixth this season.

Eric Hosmer might have woken up last night, going 1 for 4 with his first home run of the season. He has been off to a dismal start this season, entering last night with only two extra-base hits in 63 plate appearances

All four of Dylan Bundy’s starts so far have been quality starts. He has allowed more than one run only once

Brad Brach has allowed only four of the 30 batters he has faced over nine scoreless innings. He has 12 strikeouts, three walks and one hit allowed.

Trevor Story hit his first grand slam last night, but he is still batting .143 on the season. Last year at this time he already hit ten home runs

Dansby Swanson was moved down to eighth in the order last night. is hitting .125 on the season. He is hitless in his last 11 at-bats, and 3 for 36 over his last nine games. He hits the ball hard when he does make contact, 89.4 mph average exit velocity but he strikes out over 25 percent of the time.

Adonis Garcia has been very unlucky at the plate. He has had an exit velocity over 100 mph 11 times, and only three of those went for hits. He only strikes out 13.3 percent of the time so it would make sense to see his batting average and on base percentage rise over the coming weeks.

Team News

The Rockies improved to 7-0 in one-run games. They were 12-20 last season.

The Royals are averaging 2.69 runs scored per game.

David Price threw 30 pitches with no discomfort. He will throw another side session either

Ramping up of the volume and intensity has caused us to slow down a little bit, I wish I could give you a template for these situations, and yet there isn’t one. It’s case by case. The fact is that all pitches thrown today, the intensity with which they were thrown, was very encouraging, and the next bullpen thrown will have those up and down simulations to them. We’ll re-evaluate after the next work session.John Farrell on Price
