Matt Kemp left the game with tightness in his right hamstring after a diving catch in the fifth. Kemp will be re-evaluated on Saturday.

Francisco Liriano did not make it through the first inning so it was easy to beat Donkey Teeth in the DraftKings tournament yesterday. Except for me because I owned him too. Wait, I still beat Donkey Teeth, and Hernan…sorry boys.

Liriano walked four of the eight batters he faced and gave up hits to three more.

Nomar Mazara went 3-for-5 and is now hitting .588. He leads the league with ten hits and his nine RBIs in the first four games of the season set a new team record. Last April, Mazara had seven RBIs and was named the AL Rookie of the Month. He was hitting .322 on June 11 but struggled down the stretch and finished at .266. He said he got away from his hitting plan as pitchers adjusted to him.

Khris Davis hit home run number four last night. Last season he hit 10 homers off Texas pitchers.

The Twins bullpen has not allowed a run in 13 innings this season.

Yoan Moncada had three hits in his debut at Triple-A Charlotte Thursday and four more last night.

Manny Margot was the first rookie to hit two homers in a Padres home opener last season after hitting only two home runs in five minor league seasons.

Cameron Maybin is the first Angels left fielder to hit a homer in April since 2014.

Ivan Nova is 4-1 with a 2.13 ERA at home since becoming a Pirate.

Billy Hamilton has been caught stealing 40 times in 226 attempts so far in his career. Yadier Molina has caught 35.7 percent of runners in 510 starts. Hamilton hit .385 last year against the Cardinals

DFS Michael Wacha has won his past five decisions going back to June 22. He is 6-1 with a 3.07 ERA in his career against Cincinnati.

Amir Garrett used four different pitches to shut down the Cardinals in his major league debut. He did not allow a runner to get past second base and 50 of 78 went for strikes. Batters swung-and-missed 46 percent of the time.

Jake McGee was given a save opportunity against the Dodgers, who struggle against left-handed pitching. The Dodgers have lost two of their first five games, both of them started by opposing lefties, and are batting .182 (12 for 66) with 22 strikeouts against lefties.

The Dodgers against left-handed pitching last season:

  • Ranked last in the majors in batting average (.213)
  • Ranked last in on-base percentage (.290)
  • Ranked last in slugging percentage (.332)
  • Lost all three postseason games started by left-handers.

Blake Treinen did not blow the save, but he had rough outing number two in two games. His leash is not long.

The Diamondbacks have won four of five games so far and came from behind in each. Shelby Miller got his first win at Chase field and at one point he retired 10 batters in a row. Last season he posted a 7.39 ERA at home.

Michael Brantley smartly stole a base going in feet first rather than risking a re-injury to his right shoulder. He is 40-for-42 in stolen base attempts over the past four seasons.

Kyle Freeland was the first major-league pitcher since 1966 to make his debut as a starting pitcher in his team’s home opener in the state in which he was born.

The top three of the Rockies lineup are still only hitting a combined .138. Charlie Blackmon, DJ LeMahieu and Carlos Gonzalez.

Jim Bowden asked each of the 30 big-league general managers what their biggest concern was as they entered the 2017 season, and Tigers Al Avila said “The bullpen in general.”

He wasn’t kidding. There is no shortage of Tigers bullpen cartoons and memes…poor Tigers fans.

Rondon turned into a human kerosene can during Thursday’s game and nearly incited a Tigers Nation riot as he self-immolated to the tune of three runs, two hits, and a walk in a horrific eighth inning

Tigers Prospect Joe Jimenez was supposed to get some practice at Triple-A before the Tigers planned to call him up, but his arrival will now be expedited thanks to the horrific Detroit bullpen.

The Astros are batting .217 with only 13 runs through five games and Jose Altuve has either struck out or hit into a double play in more than half of his at-bats.

Dallas Keuchel lost the feel for his changeup last season and threw it only five times over his final three starts before getting shut down with shoulder inflammation late August. The changeup is an important weapon to offset righthanded hitters. In his season debut on Monday, Keuchel induced four swings and misses on his changeup.

Eric Thames is hitting .333 with a home run and a .429 on-base percentage in four games to start the season. However, Jesus Aguilar is batting .636 and leads the team with seven hits. Thames might still lose playing time in order to get Aguilar into the lineup.

Vince Velasquez became the first Phillies pitcher since 1900 to record at least 10 strikeouts in an appearance that was at most four innings. His fastball hovered at 94, 95 mph, reaffirming that, at 24, he has an arm unlike that of any other starter in the Phils’ rotation or the organization’s high minor leagues.
