Junior Guerra ‘strained his calf’ while running to first base yesterday, taken out of the game in the third inning. This scares me as I know from experience that this ‘calf strain’ is probably an achilles tendon injury. Mine felt like I was shot in the calf, and I ended up in a hard cast for six months. Own Guerra? Time to Worry.

Seth Lugo will go for a second opinion today on his fatigued pitching arm, which showed no sign of structural damage in an MRI taken Saturday.

Noah Syndergaard has a blister on the tip of his finger, so his next start has been moved back. Robert Gsellman will take his spot this Saturday.

The Mets are down to zero pitching depth and it is only day three…Here is a Mets fan at the train station who thought he was going to be late for opening day at Citi Field.

Steven Matz’ elbow injury is a flexor tendon strain Matz has already been sidelined for almost a month, and will stay sidelined for???

Phil and I talked about Matz in the first segment of our podcast yesterday.

There is now some sort of ‘fluid’ timetable set for Devin Mesoraco to return. That really just means there is no timetable.

Carlos Rodon could be back with the team in five-to-six weeks as long as there are no setbacks along the way.

Lance Lynn is expected to throw 100 pitches tomorrow. It will be his first start since 2015. Go Lance Lynn!! #FantasyDealBreaker

Cincinnati Reds starters allowed the most homers in baseball last season (155), and their bullpen gave up the most homers in baseball last season (103). Basically the Reds pitching staff sucked last season.

Clayton Kershaw is 5-0 with a .99 ERA over seven consecutive opening day starts. He is 15-6 with a 2.03 ERA and a .191 batting average against in 29 career starts against the Padres

Chris Owings could see time in right field against lefties, as David Peralta struggles against LHP.

Julio Teheran went 7-10 last season, but much of that can be attributed to the fact that he got very little run support, 3.35 runs per nine innings pitched to be exact.

DFS – Teheran is 5-2 with a 1.49 ERA in his past 10 starts against the Mets, including 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in four starts against the Mets last season.

Carlos Gomez‘ hit a 461 foot homer past left field to start the third inning yesterday. It was just the 20th homer to land in the left-field club level at Globe Life Park. The last Ranger to do it was Nelson Cruz on May 14, 2012.

Dallas Keuchel was excellent yesterday, locating his pitches in the bottom third of the strike zone, consistently inducing weak contact. He only allowed two singles in seven scoreless innings.

George Springer is only the second player in Astros history to smash a leadoff homer on opening day. Terry Puhl was the first back in 1978 and once again in 1980.

Madison Bumgarner is the second major league pitcher in the last 13 seasons to reach 11 strikeouts in seven innings in less than 89 pitches. Dillon Gee did it in 2013. Randy Johnson did it in 2004. Bumgarner is also the only pitcher in MLB history to hit two bombs on opening day.

Zack Greinke threw 92 pitches in five innings, and the Diamondbacks called in their first relief pitcher before they had their first baserunner.

Jeanmar Gomez already allowed a two-run homer, which makes the already short leash even shorter.

I’m concerned, I had two guys up in the ‘pen in that ninth inning [Joely Rodriguez and Pat Neshek]. He’s just not getting the ball down the way he did when he was successful. I want to make sure that he gets opportunities, but at the same time, I don’t want to let games slip away He has to execute. Like I said, for me, he’s earned the right to be the closer for right now. But he’s got to get the ball down. I like what I saw from Benoit, from Neris. Ramos has the stuff to be a closer. Neshek I haven’t seen enough of But I certainly have options. I don’t want to make too big of a deal out of it, but I owe it to the team to do what I think is best for the team. Pete Mackanin on Gomez
