Drew Pomeranz received a stem-cell injection in his left elbow after last season. He admits he felt some “minor elbow discomfort” last year but claims he is healthy entering the spring.
The Padres A.J. Preller was issued a 30-day suspension for failing to disclose medical information about Pomeranz to the Red Sox before trading Pomeranz for pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza.
Aledmys Diaz committed 10 errors by May 18, but only six more after. Also noteworthy is that he was hitting .376 with 14 doubles by May 18. Everything kind of evened out — he came back to earth as a hitter, and ascended as a fielder. This made for an All-Star season.

With the Rays’ entire payroll for 2017 currently only about $65 million, the club might look to add a proven right-handed hitter, preferably to play first and elsewhere, though potentially at the bench spot of Tim Beckham or Nick Franklin.
The Marlins would also like to add another right handed bat to share time with Justin Bour at first base, like Chris Carter or Mark Reynolds. However, the Marlins are likely at their payroll limit.
