A friend of ours sent a text the other day when Jung Ho Kang smacked a grand slam down art High-A. He is currently hitting .462 with two stolen bases, two home runs, seven RBI and five walks in 13 at bats. He is owed $3 million by the Pirates for 2018, who also have a $5.5 million team option for 2019.

Injuries

Drew Pomeranz was sent to the disabled list with biceps tendonitis, and Jalen Beeks will be called up to make the start on Thursday. Beeks is 3-3 with a 2.56 ERA and 80 strikeouts through 56 ⅓ innings at Triple-A Pawtucket

Jordan Montgomery will undergo Tommy John surgery. The Yankees have had more pitchers require the surgery than any other team besides the Mets since 2015. They will look within the organization to replace him Montgomery in the rotation. Josh Rogers, Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield are potential candidates.

Chris Archer was sent to the disabled list with an abdominal strain. Diego Castillo was recalled from Triple-A Durham. He is 0-1 with a 1.03 ERA and four saves in 19 games so far.

Andrelton Simmons left the game with a sprained ankle

Logan Morrison sat out both games yesterday because of back stiffness and it is unclear if he will play today.

Julio Teheran will miss an undetermined length of time with a right thumb contusion

Albert Pujols will continue to sit out of the game today and tomorrow because of a sore left knee. He flew home today for treatment.

Justin Turner sat out because his previously fractured wrist is sore, which could mean it wasn’t fully healed upon his return. It is unclear if he will be in the lineup today.

Jeimer Candelario left yesterday’s game with hand injury after he was hit with a 104 mph ground ball off the bat of JD Martinez. The extent of his injury is unclear at this time.
