Lenny and I were at the A’s game when catcher Bruce Maxwell became the first, and only, MLB player to kneel during the National Anthem. He says he did it because someone in the stands yelled a racial slur at him during a baseball game when he was 10 years old.
He complained to TMZ over the negative reaction he got from some people in his hometown, but maybe his neighbors were annoyed because, like his buddy Colin Kaepernick, Maxwell grew up among a bunch of ‘privilaged’ white people.

Maxwell was arrested in October on charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct after he pulled a gun on a girl delivering food to his Scottsdale home at about six o’clock in the evening.
His trial is set to begin April 10, so if he doesn’t settle, he is guaranteed to miss time. Management doesn’t seem overly concerned

Hall of Fame second baseman, Joe Morgan, took it upon himself to send a letter to every hall of fame voter urging them to keep known steroid users out.
Obviously we all have our own opinion about this, and who knows if his plea will actually change anyone’s vote, but apparently he thinks it was worth a try. How annoying.

Rumor has it that Braves 3B Adonis Garcia wants to be released from his contract so he can pursue an opportunity in the Korean Baseball Organization.
When asked which free agents the Braves will target next year, Mark Bowman of MLB.com mentioned a possible need for a short-term third baseman, a catcher and some pitching:
There is reason to believe Atlanta will use an abundance of funds to acquire another proven top-of-the-rotation starter via trade or free agency before the start of the 2019 season. Yes, the Braves will likely have at least $80 million to spend and yes, Clayton Kershaw will likely be on the free-agent market. But for now, I’ll guess he’ll remain with the Dodgers and the Braves will go the more economically-sound route by trading for a starting pitcher.Mark Bowman

A.J. Cole entered 2012 ranked higher than Xander Bogaerts, George Springer, Sonny Gray and Chris Archer on top prospect list by Baseball America.
He enters 2018 out of options after three years going back and forth between the minors and majors. Cole will have every opportunity to make the opening day roster as the Nationals fifth starter, but don’t be surprised if he ends up in the bullpen. There is a reason he got sent back down so many times.
