Woke up to Yankee news that right-handed minor league pitchers had been swapped late Tuesday with the Colorado Rockies. Trenton Thunder RHP Jordan Foley was traded to Colorado for Boise Hawks RHP Jefry Valdez.
Jordan Foley had most recently pitched in the Arizona Fall League where he posted a 9.15 ERA with a
.267 BAA. The 6’4, 225 pound righty had a tough fall, going 0-2 as a starter in seven games. In the regular season, he pitched with the Thunder, posting a 2.98 ERA with a 9.09 K/9 and 4.75 BB/9. As Caitlin Rogers of pinstripealley.com noted, “He clearly has command issues that need to be worked out.” Foley will be joining the Hartford Yard Goats, the Rockies Double-A affiliate.
Valdez is a three-pitch pitcher with his calling card being his fastball that is around 92-95 miles per hour; he backs it up with a 79-81 mph changeup and an 82-85 mph slider according to our friends at Baseball Census. All three of his pitches are still developing, his slider has shown occasional 10-to-4 break but lacks the consistency to be a real out pitch right now.Robert Pimpsner on Valdez
Valdez has been in the Rockies’s system since 2015, and is clearly a work in progress for the Yankees, but fans will be eager to hear his name as he works his way through the Yankees organization.
