So far it has been a surprisingly productive off season for the Reds, with the biggest shock of all coming earlier this off season when they elected to non-tender longtime outfielder Billy Hamilton (who has since signed with the Royals).
Reds GM Dick Williams has since focused his concentration on the Winter Meetings and there has been a lot of chatter surrounding his club. Williams expressed earlier in the off season that his Reds would be looking to make some waves in the pitching market this off season and they have done just that, their names being linked to several free agent arms and in the trade market.
Most recently the Reds have been linked to a three-team deal along with the Dodgers and Indians. While this trade is still in its infancy, rumors are suggesting that it could be a good haul for all three teams. The deal looks something like this so far:
Dodgers:
- Send Yasiel Puig to the Reds
- Send a pitcher (likely Rich Hill or Alex Wood) to the Reds
- Send prospects to the Indians, Receive Corey Kluber
- Receive Homer Bailey
Reds:
- Receive Puig
- Receive a Dodger arm (Wood/Hill)
- Send Homer Bailey to the Dodgers
Indians
- Send Kluber to the Dodgers
- Receive Dodger Prospects
Again this trade is still in its infancy, but it’s definitely exciting for Reds fan and the front office staff that they could dump Bailey’s contract while finding a way to boost the rotation and fill the outfield hole.
