Week 7 Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks:

Baker Mayfield (CLE) Mayfield had a tough outing at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. But, he has an easy schedule coming up starting with week seven. Look for a bounce back in Tampa Bay this weekend. Get him on your roster!

Mitch Trubisky (CHI) Also, had a tough outing against Miami. He did throw for 316 yards and three touchdowns, but Chicago ended up losing in OT. Chicago comes back home in week seven to face the New England Patriots. He’ll be needed to get the Bears into the playoffs this season.

Joe Flacco (BAL) While Baltimore won 21-0, he wasn’t needed to throw more than 238 yards on Sunday. But, things should start to get better as look further down their schedule. They have upcoming matchups against the Saints, Panthers, and Steelers. Flacco has a great schedule coming up with his next game against the Saints. Pick him up if he’s available!

Fade on Waivers:

Blake Bortles (JAX) Bortles cannot play from behind. He’s not the type of quarterback to come back and bring his team back with a heavy deficit, and I think we saw it in Dallas on Sunday. He also looks like he’s having an issue with his mechanics. When watching him against Dallas he looked to not be the same, he needs help with his mechanics if he’s going to get it back. Last season he had a similar issue and came back at the end of the season. I’d hold off on picking him up until he cleans things up.

Derek Carr (OAK) I wouldn’t look to pick up Carr on waivers, due to the Raiders outlook this season. Let, the other owner’s pickup Carr because, in the end, you’re not helping yourself worrying about if they’ll perform up to the level of their opposing offense that week. This past week he threw for 142 yards and no touchdowns. Carr cannot be counted on to pick up in leagues.

Running Backs:

Jalen Richard (OAK) Richard again was needed in the Raiders loss to the Seahawks. He went for seven receptions and forty-eight yards on Sunday. He is the preferred choice for the Raiders when they’re playing from behind. Look Oakland to continue to rely on Richard through the season, making Richard a good pickup in PPR leagues.

Nick Chubb (CLE) Chubb will become the starter this season for the Browns. Chubb was the second best rookie running back in his draft class just behind Saquon Barkley, and ahead of his former teammate Sony Michel. I’d get him now for depth on your roster come later in the season.

Corey Clement (PHI) Should take over as the primary ball carrier for the Eagles after his performance on Sunday. He went forty-three yards and a touchdown in eleven carries, while Wendell Smallwood went for fifty-one yards in eighteen carries.

Ito Smith (ATL) I hope you were able to get Ito off of waivers last week. He will now have a major role in this offense as Devonta Freeman goes on IR. I also think it’s possible he stays in the game plan with Freeman back and could push Tevin Coleman down the depth chart. Smith has a touchdown in every game he’s played this season. On Sunday against Tamp Bay, he rushed for eleven carries but only gained twenty-two yards. Yet, he scored another touchdown. If given more opportunity he could perform on this team.

Ameer Abdullah (DET) Abdullah is currently only playing on special teams, but he has been a starting running back previous years. Abdullah isn’t Matt Patricia’s running back, that would be Kerryon Johnson. But, Abdullah could be a starting running back on another team in the NFL. I’m counting on him getting traded before the end of the month’s trade deadline. Get him now, before that happens.

Wide Receivers:

Chris Godwin (TB) Even with Howard back he performed on Sunday against the Falcons. Through the first three games, Godwin had a touchdown in every game, and another touchdown on Sunday. Winston will only increase Godwin’s chances to succeed in the offense after their bye week. I’d pick up Godwin if you need help at the wide receiver position.

Taylor Gabriel (CHI) Gabriel went for 111 yards, with five receptions on Sunday against the Dolphins. Trubisky seems to have a good rapport with Gabriel. I’d pick him up if you need help at WR.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling (GB) MVS started again on Monday Night with both Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison out against the 49ers. I think even with Allison back in week eight, that MVS is looking like a fixture in this offense in Green Bay.

Tre’Quan Smith (NO) Tre’Quan helped Drew Brees go in the record books a week ago, as at the all-time passing leader. He also helped himself move up the ranks, to eventually becoming a starter in New Orleans. Get him now if you’re in deep leagues because Sean Payton realizes he has a very talented player. He should start to see more snaps as the season goes along.

Get ready to pick up:

Rishard Matthews (FA) It’s still possible that the Cleveland Browns sign Matthews. Matthews would fit immediately into a significant role for the Browns. He would need to learn the playbook, but Todd Haley should be able to find a role for Matthews since they only can rely on Jarvis Landry right now.

Tight Ends:

Austin Hooper (ATL) If someone dropped Hooper in leagues, get him off of waivers this week. He has a legit role in the Falcons offense.

Evan Engram (NYG) Make sure you know if Engram is available on waivers in your league. I was able to get him in a deeper league two weeks ago. He should be good to play within a week or two.

Hayden Hurst (BAL) I know I sound like I’m just repeating myself every week with Hurst. But, trust me Hurst is legit and will become a fixture in the Ravens offense. This might be your last chance to get him on waivers.

C.J. Uzomah (CIN) Tyler Kroft has another significant injury and could be lost for the season again. CJ went for fifty-four yards on six receptions, Sunday against the Steelers. He’s a good pickup in PPR leagues, given his role in this offense. Look for him to average 10-16 points a week. That’s a safe number weekly to rely on, for a tight end.

Get ready to pick up:

Jordan Akins (HOU) Jordan is a rookie from UCF, who was previously drafted by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Yes, that’s correct he was previously a drafted in the MLB. What’s even more interesting is that he went in the third round of the NFL draft this season, with the Texans drafting him. He stands at 6’4 250Ibs, with great receiving hands. He only saw one reception for six yards on Sunday, but I’d Look for his snap count to increase as we progress through the season, especially with Will Fuller being limited because of his hamstring.
