Should the Phillies miss out on all the big-ticket free agents, a strong possible alternative could be A.J. Pollock. Odubel Herrera‘s second-half slide was well documented and one may wonder if his stock has irreversibly fallen in the minds of team management.
The Phillies only have 70 million committed to payroll in 2019, so this might well be an option. Durability has been an issue for Pollock as he has played in about 2/3 of the D’backs contests the last two years. He would still represent an upgrade and a much-needed presence at the top of the order for the Fightins.
Pollock will undoubtedly seek a four or five-year deal and being that he is from the northeast, it might be a chance worth taking.
