Players to Avoid on Waivers

QB:

Marcus Mariota (TEN) As we saw in the game on Sunday, he is inconsistent and I wouldn’t rely on him this season. I’m actually done drafting him ever again.

RB:

Austin Ekeler (LAC) While I do like Austin as a handcuff if I owned Gordon, I can’t trust he’ll see enough opportunities in this potent offense. The Chargers have too many great options at every position, and he won’t see as many opportunities every week as he did in Week 1. Unless you own Gordon or are in a skank league, I would avoid picking up in Week 2.

WR:

Brandon Marshall (SEA) I’m trying to avoid any WR in SEA this year (or just SEA as a team), Marshall is a good receiver but he’s always one game away from getting injured. While he could be a good fill in for bye weeks, we’re still weeks away from the byes. So, for now, I’m avoiding him in all leagues because of the uncertainty of this offense and his injury past.

Tyler Lockett (SEA) One game with a TD is not a reason to rush to the waivers to pick up a player like Lockett, especially going into Week 2. I still believe he’s unreliable as what we’ve seen for him over the last few seasons, since coming from Notre Dame. Sure, I was all aboard his first two years in the NFL, I learned my lesson and faded him in 2017. I will do the same thing this season as well, even with Baldwin sidelined for up to 6 weeks.

TE:

Jared Cook (OAK) It was great to see Cook have an excellent night getting targeted 12 times for 9 receptions and 180 yards, I would still avoid unless you have nothing else at TE this week. His numbers were good because of the situational matchup he had on paper against the Rams Monday night. Gruden took advantage of that matchup and utilized Cook down the field. I don’t see Cook having similar matchups every week, so I would tread lightly on Cook.

Will Dissly (SEA) I would avoid picking up Dissly just based on one game’s stats. I’m sure people will pick him up, as he was the most added TE in Fantasy Yahoo leagues so far this week. Dissly’s more of a blocking TE, which SEA will need even more this season and as we saw at RB last year Pete Carroll likes to surprise the other team, and everyone else with contribution from unexpected players. Dissly and other SEA TE’s could be like 2017’s RB craze. Just a situation that I would want no part of in fantasy this year!
