Phil’s FanDuel Picks Week Nine

Someone asked me the other day why I spend so much time reading, researching and writing notes. I told this person that this is what I do for a living; if my readers and listeners to the various programs I produce are willing to spend the precious free time they have listening to me than the very least that I can do is actually prepare and dial it in.

I really dislike so called “experts” who don’t prepare and dont dial it in.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr ($7700) rarely dials it in either; he was awesome yesterday throwing for 513 yards and four touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Bucanneers. He and his Raiders host the Denver Broncos this coming Sunday night. I like the price but this matchup against the best passing defense in the NFL might be one to pass on.

The narrative is that New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees ($8600) isn’t very good on the road. The problem with narratives is they are just that; the easy route to take would be to fade Brees and believe in the narrative. The hard way is to take a closer look at his road home splits. Then take a look at his matchup on Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers and believe the narrative on this one.

The Cleveland Browns have allowed the second most rushing yards in the NFL; this week they face the best rusher in the NFL and former Ohio State Buckeye RB Ezekiel Elliott ($9200) of the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott is expensive but if I were building my lineup today it would be built around him.

New York Jets Matt Forte ($7500) tore up the Cleveland Browns and the narrative that he was due for “negative aggression” by rushing for 82 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns on Sunday. This week he’s on the road to play against the equally as bad at rushing defense Miami Dolphins; the Dolphins are allowing 135.6 rushing yards a game and six touchdowns this season.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill ($7300) is fairly cheap considering his matchup at home on Sunday against a New York Jets secondary allowing 289.1 passing yards a game and 15 touchdowns this season. What would you like to bet he will be touted highly this week but will have very low ownership? Consider me one of those who most likely will pass on Tannehill no matter who he’s playing.

The stats will tell us the Baltimore Ravens have only allowed 81.9 rushing yards a game and just three touchdowns this season. The reality is that outside of LeSean McCoy (who only rushed for 58 yards) they haven’t faced a running back like Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell ($8700). He’s cheaper than Elliott and with Ben Roethlisberger out Bell carried the ball 21 times for 81 yards and caught 10 passes for 80 yards against the New England Patriots.

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson ($8200) is averaging seven targets a game and his matchup against an Indianapolis Colts defense allowing 287.8 passing yards a game and 14 touchdowns this season looks pretty good on Monday morning. Let’s see how everything shapes up as the week goes forward!

I’ll have much more for you later this week!!
