Wide Receiver
Tajae Sharpe strengthened his bid for a starting spot, as the fifth-round pick had six catches for 68 yards Saturday
Will Fuller was a frequent target of both starter Brock Osweiler and backup Tom Savage. Fuller was targeted eight times in the first half, catching four passes for 73 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown.
The Rams loaded up on rookie wide receivers hoping to find complements to Tavon Austin and Kenny Britt, but are still waiting for someone to break through.
Pharoh Cooper scored on his only reception, while Paul McRoberts added one catch for 6 yards
Braxton Miller received playing time with the first-team offense for the second straight week. The Texans intend to give the versatile playmaker touches in whatever way possible. Both Miller and fellow rookie Will Fuller were active targets for QB Brock Osweiler.
Chris Conley worked as the No. 2 wideout on the first-team offense. The job probably won’t come with a lot of targets, but Conley could emerge as a major threat in the red zone.
Quarterback
Colin Kaepernick resumed throwing in practice Thursday after missing the first exhibition game with a sore right shoulder. He is expected to begin fully participating in workouts next week in hopes of playing Friday against Green Bay.
The Broncos are still in search of a quarterback..Paxton Lynch, the Broncos’ first-round draft pick, was the most productive among the three contenders, though he has primarily gotten third-team reps in training camp.
Running Back
Rookie RB Devontae Booker, competing with Ronnie Hillman to be the primary backup to starter C.J. Anderson, ran nine times for 36 yards and also provided solid pass protection when asked to stay in and block on passing plays. Recent reports suggest Booker has supplanted Hillman as C.J. Anderson’s top backup, and Saturday’s usage supports the theory.
The Houston attack is operating behind a makeshift offensive line, so we’re not drawing too many conclusions from Miller’s 2.7 yards per carry Saturday.
Tight End
Listed atop the initial depth chart in SF, Vance McDonald is competing for the starting job against Garrett Celek, who is getting extensive playing time with the first-team offense and caught two passes for 13 yards
