Mets sign Lowrie

The Mets signed Jed Lowrie to a two-year, $20 million contract

My Take:

This is one of the better moves Brodie Van Wagenen has made since becoming the Mets General Manager.

Lowrie provides versatility with his ability to play all four infield positions. Even at 34, Lowrie continues to improve offensively. He was a 5 WAR player in 2018, with 23 homers, 99 RBI and 37 doubles.

I can see the Mets using Lowrie in a utility role, playing third base as well as second base and first base in order to give Robinson Cano and Yonder Alonso occasional days off.

If the Mets finish off their busy winter by adding a guy like A.J. Pollack, they will have a legit shot at being real contenders in the National League East in 2019
