Cubs Bullpen?

The 2019 season has finally started, and it feels like its already time for Cubs fans to panic. After the first series of the season, the problem has definitely not been the offense. The starting pitching has been awful either, although it’s been nothing to write home about.

The glaring problem is the bullpen. Now, this does not come as a surprise to most Cubs fans but, there has to be something that the Cubs brass can do about this. Brandon Morrow‘s injury is of absolute concern as he won’t be back until at minimum, May.

To be dependent on him as your lockdown closer when Morrow does come back seems like a silly plan for a team that expects to be playing for it all in October. Steve Cishek, Brad Brach, and also, yes, Pedro Strop are all nice pieces for a bullpen.

Carl Edwards needs to learn how to throw strikes. There are also some arms that can pop up from the minors as well, like a Dillon Maples and his nasty stuff.

However, None of these names are the answer for this Cubs team. At this point, the answer is Craig Kimbrel!

Kimbrel, Kimbrel, wait….say it again, KIMBREL! If there is any team out there that needs a closer of this magnitude, the Cubs are them.

Truth is, if the Cubs are going to go ahead and have a payroll teetering with the luxury tax number, should that really hold the back from putting the best product possible on the field? More importantly, should that be a reason that they don’t just go all in?

The Cubs already with a payroll in excess of $200 million should not be putting an incomplete product on the field, especially with the core players of the club hitting their prime baseball years. If there is any time to do a move like this, now is that time.

There is usually nothing that rubs a fan wrong more than if an owner of a team that constantly sells out and has an extreme amount of revenue streams says that they have no more money.

Suck it up, go get what you need and go get yourself the best possible chance of getting another World Series ring while you’re still in your championship window.
