The COO of the Mets, Jeff Wilpon, was scheduled to go and watch Amed Rosario play yesterday. The Mets plan to promote Rosario soon after the deadline, but that may be dependant on trading Asdrubal Cabrera.

The Mets are also looking to trade Addison Reed and Lucas Duda, good luck with that.

Luke Weaver will make his first major league start of the season today. He was 9-1with a 1.91 ERA in 13 starts at Triple-A Memphis. Last year he started eight games for the Cardinals and accumulated a 1-4 record and a 5.70 ERA.

John Lackey hit four batters, the most in any game of his career and the most by any pitcher in a game since 1957. Javier Baez struck out five times.

We set all kinds of weird records today. I think we tied Moe Drabowsky, and Javy [Baez] probably tied somebody. It was a day of awkward record making or breaking today. Joe Maddon

Michael Fulmer on the trade deadline:

“I hope if we go ahead and sell, I hope we do it all, I hope we go all out, I hope we don’t sell a few guys here. I hope we get younger, I hope we take a more business approach to it. I told (Tigers General Manager) David (Chadd) whatever has to be done, it needs to be done, I just want to win. That’s my main priority. … Obviously at the start of the year, we thought we had a very good chance to win, and we still think that, don’t get me wrong. Obviously Al (Avila) has a different approach to it now because he wants to sell everything and kind of start all over, which is fine by me. Either way, I’m good. I just want to be part of a winning teamMichael Fulmer

Lewis Brinson was called up to take the roster spot of injured Matt Garza yesterday. Brinson had a 17-game hit streak going upon his callup. Earlier this season he went 3-for-31 with a .97 average after getting called up

When you first get up here, it’s a lifelong dream. As a little kid, you want to get to the big leagues and hit that ‘five-run homer’ in your first at-bat, and it’s impossible. You just have to tell yourself to calm down. I went through that. I’m human. I was a little ‘jitterish,’ a little anxious, wanted to do too much. Second time around, I’m a little more relaxed. I know what to expect. I can go out there and have fun. Lewis Brinson

Josh Harrison has four consecutive multi-hit games. He is 9 for his last 17 and owns a .284 average on the season

Reynaldo Lopez has 49 strikeouts and eight walks over his last 36 innings down at Triple-A, including 10 strikeouts in five innings last night.

Getting close; he’s forcing the issue. He’s had several starts in a row that have been very impressive. He had a very good spring and arguably could’ve forced his way onto the Opening Day roster. Once he got to Charlotte, he sort of took that understandable half-step back before he got into a routine of pitching every fifth day for the Knights. Over the last few months, though, he’s been commanding all his pitches, being very aggressive within the zone and showing that he’s getting close to needing to be here to show what he can do against big-league hitters.GM Rick Hahn on Lopez

Luis Valbuena was having the worst season of his career until this week, hitting three home runs in three consecutive games. Over the last seven games:

  • Last 7 games: 3 HR, 6 RBI, 3 R, .333 AVG, .333 OBP, 15 at bats

Teams

Cubs starting pitchers lead the league since the All-Star break, going 8-0 with a 2.48 ERA

Rockies bullpen ranks 12th in the National League with a 4.56 ERA, but if you took their closer, Greg Holland, out of the mix, they would clearly have the worst bullpen, not only in the NL, but in all of baseball.

The Diamondbacks are 27-0 when scoring seven or more runs

The Dodgers are 40 games over .500, including a 36-6 record since June 7.
