Baseball Chatter May 20

Everyone says he’s a top of the rotation starter. Well, he may be the top starter for the White Sox, but he’s not a top-of-the-rotation guy. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, I like him, but he doesn’t have a dominant out pitch. He’s a three on a contender. National League Scout on Quintana
Look at what he has done in his career, Can you consider him a No. 2? With his body of work you could. He might not have a standout pitch, but he has three good ones, he just didn’t have them early in the season. He’s a lefty, he throws a lot of innings, he competes well, throws tons of strikes and has team control for several years on a favorable contract.American League scout on Quintana

Danny Salazar says he is healthy and his 95.1 mph fastball is the fastest it has been since 2013, when he was a rookie. The problem may stem from the fact that he is not keeping his pitches down in the strike zone, and he is simply allowing too many free passes.

Nick Castellanos was moved down in the order yesterday, as he is only batting .224 this season. He ranks third among qualified hitters with a 50.9% Hard Contact Rate. He also hits plenty of line drives. I noticed his home run to fly ball ratio though, as it sticks out like a sore thumb:
