Team News

  • The Blue Jay’s have won 10 of their last 15 games and now sit within three for a wild card spot
  • Yankees swept the Mets on the season for the first time since 2003
  • The Orioles play 16 of their next 19 games at home where they have a 35-23 record
  • The Rockies lost for the seventh time in 10 games, and are tied with Arizona again atop the National League wild-card standings.
  • The Dodgers are the first team to be at least 50 games over .500 since the 2004 Cardinals.
    • They are the first Dodgers team to achieve it since 1953.
    • They could lose every game from now until Labor Day and still lead their division.
    • Their run differential is an otherworldly plus-214.
  • The Brewers play their next home game on Aug. 29
    • They have lost 18 of 27 games coming out of the break.
  • The Giants have had 24 players hit the disabled list this season, a total of 711 man games.

Injury Updates

  • Nolan Arenado may not have broken bones but he clearly still has pain where he was hit by a pitch Sunday.
    • He left last night’s game after a throwing error and a defensive error, obviously feeling pain
    • He needs to go on the disabled list to rest and heal before he injures it further and the Rockies are out their best player when it matters most. But who am I right.

  • Adam Wainwright had five earned runs on seven hits over three innings and couldn’t top 90 mph for the second straight start
    • has allowed 9 runs on 15 hits and only struck out one over 11 innings in three starts since returning from the disabled list

  • Jon Lester earned nine runs in 1 ⅔ innings before he left the game in the second inning with lat tightness.
  • Reynaldo Lopez left the game in the fifth inning with soreness in his right side.
  • Lance McCullers seems likely to need multiple rehab starts and targets September for his return.
  • Kyle Seager has missed the last two games with stomach issues and has lost 12 pounds in two days.

    • Aaron Judge struck out three times as he extends his streak to 38 games straight
    • Max Kepler hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning
    • Steven Matz earned six runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out four,
      • He hasn’t won since June 28 and hasn’t been able to make it through six innings since July 3.
      • 0-6 with a 10.19 ERA over his last eight starts.
    • Mike Fiers leads the league with 30 home runs allowed this season. He made it through 5 ⅓ innings
    • Fiers gave up his major-league-leading 30th home run
    • Before the game, A.J. Hinch identified Fiers’ problems:
    Fiers is really effective when he’s around the zone with all three of his pitches and he’s able to get guys to swing on the margin,And when he’s not, he falls behind and gets into trouble. His changeup’s going to be big today, When he loses all of those things, it tends to be a tough outing for him from an efficiency standpoint and productivity standpoint I hope that strike one is in his repertoire today.     AJ Hinch said the DL stint has offered McCullers a mental break. McCullers unraveled after going 12-3 with a 2.69 ERA through June. He was 0-4 with a 9.64 ERA in July.

    • Luis Severino allowed one unearned run on four hits over 6 ¹/₃ innings.
    • Patrick Corbin allowed four hits and struck out seven over 8 ⅔ innings,
      • There have been 15 games this season in which The Diamondbacks have allowed eight runs or more 15 times this season and Corbin has started seven of them.

    • Phillip Ervin hit his second career homer in two days and drove in four
    • Yan Gomes hit his eighth in game one and then sat out in game two

    • Ryan Zimmerman hit his 29th homer of the season
    • Josh Donaldson went 2 for 3 with two solo homers
      • batting .467 (14-for-30) with five home runs and 14 RBI over the past nine games.
    • Josh Harrison hit his 13th home run.
    • Curtis Granderson hit the seventh grand slam of his career
    • Yoan Moncada walked twice and hit his third homer. His OBP .333, and his batting average is well, let’s just say it is below the mendoza line
    • Jose Abreu hit team leading 23rd homer and drove in two. He also leads the team with 75 RBI.

    • Nomar Mazara hit a home run in two consecutive games and drove in five
      • is batting 351 over the last 18 games

    • Tommy Pham hit one of the longest home runs ever seen at PNC Park, and has an eight game hit streak

    • Arodys Vizcaino is five for five in save opportunities and has a 2.28 ERA through 47 appearances on the season
    • Scott Kingery went 2-for-5, with two runs scored and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
      • has hit safely in 31 of his last 32 games and is hitting an even .300 since being promoted to AAA in late June.
