Atlanta Braves
  • Have lost 17 of their last 23 games
  • Outfielder prospect Ronald Acuna might be called up to the majors at some point in the next seven weeks, and his debut could become the most memorable event of the season for the team.
  • Mike Foltynewicz has given up at least five runs twice in his past three starts
Baltimore Orioles
  • Tim Beckham is 22-for-44 in his first 11 games with the Orioles, including nine extra-base hits (four doubles, two triples and three homers).
Boston Red Sox
  • David Price threw in the outfield from 120 feet, then threw more intensely from 60 feet on flat ground, including breaking balls. Price was out on the field for the third time in the past four days. There is still no timetable for his return
Chicago Cubs
  • John Lackey is 5-0 with a 3.22 ERA in the second half
  • Cubs starters are 13-4 and second in the National League in the second half, with a 3.18 ERA
Chicago White Sox
  • Reynaldo Lopez limited the Royals to two runs and four hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out six.
    • Lopez is ranked No. 7 in the Sox system and No. 59 in baseball. He was 6-7 with a 3.79 ERA and 131 strikeouts (third in the International League) in 22 starts covering 121 innings at Triple-A.

  • Carlos Carrasco took a no-hitter into the seventh inning after going 0-2 with a 6.58 ERA in his last five starts. He got his first win since July 3.
  • The Indians won for just the fourth time in their last 11 games.
Colorado Rockies
  • Gerardo Parra hit home run number nine last night
    • he is hitting .400 since coming off the disabled list July 7
  • The Rockies lost for the fourth time this season when they hit two or more homers but still lead the majors, going 35-4 in such games
  • The Rockies selected prospect Ryan McMahon’s contract yesterday and added him to the 25-man roster.
    • He was in uniform Friday night, wearing jersey No. 1.
    • The 22 year-old hit a combined .354 (152-for-429) with 71 runs scored, 37 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, 82 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in the minors
    • He has made 49 starts at first base, 32 at second and 24 at third this season.
Detroit Tigers
  • Have lost six of their last seven games
  • Mikie Mahtook has multiple hits in seven of his last eight games
    • playing center field everyday and batting .298 on the season with eight home runs
Houston Astros
  • Entered yesterday as one of only two teams who hadn’t had a four-game losing streak.
    • The Dodgers are now the only team that has not lost four in a row.
  • George Springer leads the team, with 28 home runs
    • The home run was only his second hit since he returned from the disabled list Wednesday
Kansas City Royals
  • Royals pitching has a 6.38 ERA across 10 games in August.
Los Angeles Angels
  • Bud Norris doesn’t look to be the closer anymore
    • He was called on to pitch the eighth, setting up for Cam Bedrosian.
    • He gave up three runs
    • After the game Scioscia said Norris is going to “take a half step back” while they re-evaluate him.

  • Have won four in a row and 10 of their last 14.
  • Now just a half-game behind the Twins for the second wild card spot.
  • Tied with the Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays.
Florida Marlins
  • Giancarlo Stanton has hit 14 home runs in the past 26 games since the All-Star break, including seven in his past eight games
Milwaukee Brewers
  • After tinkering with different lineups in an attempt to awaken his slumbering offense, manager Craig Counsell went back to an oldie with Villar leading off and Thames batting second.
  • Ryan Braun has strung together six consecutive games with multiple hits.
  • The Brewers suffered their second six-game losing streak since the all-star break
    • They are 9-18 over that stretch
    • They fell back to .500 (59-59) and into a third-place tie with Pittsburgh in the NL Central
    • One month ago the Brewers had a 5.5 game lead in the American League central
Minnesota Twins
  • Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario each homered and drove in three runs
  • Four relievers combined for 4 ⅓ innings of one-run ball
  • Twins won their sixth straight for the first time since Aug. 20-26.
New York Mets
  • There were reports that the Yankees passed up a deal for Neil Walker due to his medical records and he came out to set the record straight.
    • Neil Walker was blindsided by reports the Yankees nixed a deal with the Mets at the non-waiver trade deadline because of concerns over his medicals, and wants the record set straight.

“I was healthy and I still am healthy,” Walker said yesterday

  • Jed Lowrie is batting .275 and leads all of baseball in doubles
Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Andrew McCutchen took himself out of the game with an injury to his left knee. He has hit safely in nine of the last 12 games and leads the team with 23 home runs
  • Gregory Polanco was examined after taking a foul ball off his foot.

Neither injury appears to be serious.

St. Louis Cardinals
  • Tied a franchise record by scoring at least eight runs six consecutive games
  • 27-16 with the second-most wins in majors since June 25
  • Adam Wainwright’s fastball didn’t top 90 mph for the second straight start
    • His velocity dropped as low as 61.8 mph with his curveball, but some were so slow they didn’t even register on the radar
    • He talks about the loss in velocity last night
  • Carlos Martinez enters today with 6.26 ERA in first inning, compared to his 3.52 overall ERA.
  • of his 54 walks, 15 have come in the first inning

Tampa Bay Rays
  • Have been shutout four times in seven games on this homestand
  • Third time since July 28 that the Rays were no-hit through at least five innings
Washington Nationals
  • Sean Doolittle, Ryan Madson and Brandon Kintlzer have a combined 1.57 ERA and 0.913 WHIP across 23 innings.
    • Doolittle has allowed four earned runs over 10 innings and converted all seven save chances.
    • Madson has pitched eight scoreless innings.
    • Kintzler has pitched five scoreless innings
