Phil and I talked about the most added and dropped players on this morning’s podcast.
Listen:
Mets are ‘skeptical’ of Steven Matz and his flexor strain.
From my understanding, it’s like a flexor strain, I strained my flexor. That’s kind of what the feeling is, that the flexor tendon is kind of flaring up. Personally, I love to play baseball and now I can’t play baseball. Professionally, it’s my job, and now I can’t do it. On both ends, it’s really unfortunate. It’s tough, but I know I’ve worked as hard as I can and it’s out of my control,So I try to do all I can to stay healthy and stay on the field. Thankfully, it’s not anything more serious. So I hope that I can come back and help the team when I’m ready, but there’s nothing I can do, I feel like.Steven Matz
Two of the Mets medical staff ‘found nothing wrong’ so they question the opinion of the outside doctor Matz saw. Seriously though, if you were Matz you might also go get another opinion, and you might also believe it. The hope is for Matz to return to the mound in May. I translate that into ‘There is currently no timetable for Matz return.’
DFS Martin Perez is 7-0 with a 1.48 ERA in eight home daytime starts since the beginning of 2014.
Diamondbacks have won six home games to start the season. It took them 22 tries, until May 16, to win six home games last season. Arizona is on a roll. Through their first six games, in which they are 5-1, they have scored a franchise-record 45 runs. They are hitting an absurd .431 with runners in scoring position. They are rolling.
Guess who is about to lose their job already? Yep, Jeanmar Gomez blew the save yesterday, you still got a win if you had him on your roster, and a 15.00 ERA. GOmez is going to get a talking to today…
Hector Neris, Joaquin Benoit and Edubray Ramos are all capable closers. I am a fan of Ramos myself, but stay away from the Phillies bullpen at this point.
Before the game yesterday, Red Sox manager John Farrell said Jackie Bradley Jrwas dealing with some soreness and swelling in his knee. Farrell said the team was waiting for an MRI to be reviewed.
Yangervis Solarte is already up to eight RBI on the year, and confirming second base eligibility in many leagues in addition to his third base qualification
Kelvin Herrera had his first save opportunity yesterday and now he has his first blown save
Jake Marisnicks HR was off of Kelvin Herrera’s slider… That was the first HR ever hit off his slider.

Archie Bradley got a hold yesterday after one strikeout and one hit over two scoreless innings. Another Effector!!
Bradley looks as though he may have found a niche as a high-leverage, multi-inning arm out of the bullpen, where his blazing fastball plays up even more than it did as a starter.
Jake Arrieta struck out 10 in seven innings yesterday, and says he will pitch until he is 40.
Francisco Lindor moved into the two hole where Jason Kipnis hit 153 games last season. Terry Francona would prefer not to hit Kipnis and Brantley consecutively in the lineup, which could mean Kipnis would hit leadoff, and Carlos Santana would bat toward the middle of the lineup.
Salvador Perez hit his fourth homer in four games, becoming the first Royals hitter to accomplish that feat since Billy Butler in 2011. Mike Moustakas hit his third homer of the season. In all, the Royals have piled up 10 homers in six games. But nine of those have been of the solo variety.
The Angels have won five of their first six games thanks to the bullpen as the halos still have not a starter throw a pitch in the seventh inning, and they’ve had only one finish the sixth.
Zach Davies dropped his second straight start on Sunday

Marcus Semien stole two bases yesterday batting leadoff. Melvin didn’t say if he will continue to slot Semien in the leadoff spot but there were hints he’s thinking about it.
Marcus had a nice day, So if we’re going to leave him in the leadoff spot against righties, we might as well against lefties, too. Plus there’s the speed dynamic regardless of who’s leading off and who’s batting second.
The Giants’ only two victories on the trip to Arizona and San Diego came in Cueto’s starts. It was a trip that might have exposed a few roster flaws.
Steven Piscotty’s absence is showing us how determined Mike Matheny is to make Matt Adams work in left field, or how hesitant he is to start Jose Martinez. If Adams doesn’t hit above average, it will soon become hard to justify playing him everyday in left field because his defense sucks.
