Baseball Chatter 04/05

It took more than three months, 13 starts, for Jose Quintana to give up three home runs last season. Yesterday he gave up three in four innings.

Houston Starters have one earned run on seven hits over 13 innings to start the season.

Show love for Yadi by printing him, taking a pic with him and sharing it on social media. Like this:

Patrick Corbin had a very bright future before Tommy John surgery in March 2014. There is a great article written in 2015 by Ryan Romero (@triple_r_) over at SB Nation. You should read it and then decide what you think about Lenny’s boy Corbin

We are supposed to believe that Cam Bedrosian and Andrew Bailey are sharing the closer role. In my opinion that is just the management trying not to hurt anyone’s feelings. I bet we don’t see Bailey get more than five save opportunities the entire season. Don’t bet on Huston Street getting the job back when healthy if Bedrosian is getting it done.

Matt Shoemaker in 2016:

  • First Seven Starts – 8.49 ERA, 22:13 K:BB
  • Remainder of season – 2.83 ERA, 121:17 K:BB

Jake Arrieta had one earned run due to an infield error. Other than that, he only allowed two baserunners past second base. Threw 90 pitches.

Adam Wainwright allowed four runners in a row got on base against Adam Wainwright in the fourth inning, the same inning he threw this beauty:

Carlos Carrasco – 68 percent of his pitches for the strikes, and his only real blemish came on a long Joey Gallo home run in the second inning.

Stephen Piscotty was hit three times, yes three times, in one inning. That includes being hit in the head before getting taken out of the game. Piscotty answered all the questions coaches threw at him like, do you know where you are? do you know what day it is? what is the name of the President? Wait, who is the President? He officially has a contusion and will be re-evaluated today.

Joc Pederson will get more chances against left-handed pitchers than he did last season in 2017 than he did during the 2016 season

Clayton Richard was robbed of a complete game shutout after 99 pitches and eight innings. That really sucks. He will likely never get that opportunity again

Garrett Richards and Clayton Richard. I can’t be the only one who likes to mix and match these two pitchers. Seriously, can you tell the difference between them?

Anyway, Garrett is the one who opted for stem cell therapy instead of Tommy John surgery. The one I was trying to tell you to So far so good too. He will make his first start since last May tonight. In the four starts before he was hurt, Richards gave up five earned runs in 25 2/3 innings, an ERA of 1.75.

Three Pirates combined to hit 34 percent of the team’s home runs last season (52) and none of them are named Andrew McCutchen, Gregory Polanco or Starling Marte. All three are also absent from this years Opening Day roster.
