Mets  prospect Amed Rosario is the third-best prospect in baseball, according to a list released by Keith Law of ESPN.

“He has MVP potential as a true shortstop who will be above average defensively and projects to hit .300 with some walks and power,” says Law. “He’ll become a cornerstone at short for the Mets, who have lacked one since Jose Reyes first left in free agency.”

The Padres are still looking for a middle infielder but Zack Cozart is only under control for one more season so it is unlikely that the Padres are going to give up young talent to get him. Adeiny Hechavarria’s name has been mentioned, but the Marlins need pitchers and the Padres don’t really have any pitching to give up.

Freddy Galvis could eventually become available with J.P. Crawford looming on the horizon in Phialdelphia, The A’s and Brewers have controllable options in Marcus Semien and Jonathan Villar.

The most common speculative name to be tied to the Padres is Jurickson Profar due both to the lack of an opening in the Rangers’ middle infield and to Preller’s time in Texas.

The Dodgers added another player with big-league experience in Ike Davis, who signed a minor-league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training.

Davis, 29, figures to be injury insurance behind Adrian Gonzalez.

Prospect experts project De Leon, 24, as “a potential No. 2.” Baseball America says he could be “a mid-rotation” starter.

Dodgers Ned Coletti gives his thoughts on TuneIn radio, listen:

Greg Holland has $3 million worth of non-closing incentives in his contract and can earn up to $14 million next season if he does become closer. The non-closing incentives are based on innings pitched and game appearances,

Justin Upton can opt out following the 2017 season, but in order to do that he needs to improve upon his 2016 performance quite a bit in order to pass up the $88.5MM he’d stand to earn from 2018-21.

Lorenzo Cain said Friday that his hand is fully healed and that he has already resumed hitting, A wrist injury in September that cut his season short, but he did not require surgery to repair it.

Mike Moustakas said Friday that his knee is “almost 100 percent,” nearly eight months removed from undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL, Moustakas did acknowledge that he will likely be put on a slower schedule than is normal during spring training.

Michael Brantley is hitting a ball off a tee every day, He currently does two sessions consisting of three sets of 40 to 50 swings twice a day. He said he feels better than he did at this time last year. Then he was almost three months removed from having surgery on the labrum in his right shoulder. Another surgery followed in August, ending Brantley’s season. There will be no predictions this year.

“I’m not saying anything,” said Brantley. “All I know is that I’m healthy right now and I have a progression to go through. Once I get through that I’ll be ready to rock and roll.”

The A’s won’t go into spring training with a set closer. Ryan Madson probably has a leg up on the competition, but Santiago Casilla, John Axford and Sean Doolittle all have closer credentials, Melvin said. “Boy, we have some depth there.”

Bob Melvin said that Kendall Graveman,

“has turned himself into a true top-of-the-rotation type pitcher. With he and Sonny leading the way, feel like we’re in good position to take some of the pressure off some of the younger starters.”

The Cubs were the only team in baseball last season to finish above average in Defensive Runs Saves at every single position. Their 107 DRS as a team beat the second-place Astros by a whopping 26 runs

Trevor Clifton might be the Cardinals most likely prospect to make his major league debut this season. The second-round pick in 2013 posted a 2.72 ERA in 23 High-A starts starts last season. The righthander has totaled 41 more strikeouts (301) than hits allowed (260). He has plenty of work left to do, but if the Cubs find themselves in need of an arm, perhaps his development hits the fast track.

The Rangers are interested in Mike Napoli but they haven’t gone all out to get him. It’s time the club finds out whether Ryan Rua, Jurickson Profar, and Joey Gallo can handle regular MLB roles, and that may be holding the Rangers back from pushing to land Napoli.

Mike Napoli might be a perfect fit for the Twins. General manager Thad Levine says he is still looking to fill the void of veteran leadership lost when they lost Torii Hunter. Napoli would be a great addition to a team with a young roster that finished 59-103 last season, but were 83-79 in 2015.
