Marcus Stroman was shaming the Blue Jays Organization on Twitter for not offering a contract to his buddy Ryan Goins, I mean for not telling him that they didn’t sign his friend before he found out on Twitter. Come on, man.
Crazy. Can’t believe my brother @rgoins17 is gone. Even worse when you find out through Twitter! #communication

It was bad enough that Yasmany Tomas and his six-year/$70 million contract are pretty much a huge burden on the new Arizona Diamondbacks front office, or that he only appeared in 47 games last year due to injury, or that he is not even a decent outfielder. No, he had to go out and get arrested for driving, unimpaired, over 100 mph in Arizona on Thursday. He is unlikely to receive any suspension from MLB
New rules intended at shortening the length of games will take place in 2018 even if the commissioner and the players association don’t agree on how to do it. It will most likely consist of a 20 second pitch clock where if the pitcher takes too long to throw, a ball gets added to the count and if the hitter takes too long he gets a strike added to the count.
The market for Manny Machado is limited to teams that are ready to win-now, which includes two division rivals in the Yankees and Red Sox. The Orioles aren’t high on it, so Tim Beckham might be a better player for the Orioles to market.
The Yankees were willing to give up Clint Frazier or Chance Adams for Gerrit Cole but not Gleyber Torres, Justus Sheffield, Estevan Florial or Miguel Andujar. They consider Frazier a high-risk, high-reward prospect who doesn’t really fit in to their already crowded outfield
Felipe Rivero reacted on twitter to the Pirates trading Andrew McCutchen and a couple hours later the Pirates and Rivero agreed to a four year extension.
Let it be known that when you have a complaint and can’t get anyone on the phone, you can take to Twitter or Facebook and someone will get back to you within minutes.
Seems to be the approach here.

The Padres shouldn’t have to wear uniforms that look like the color of baby poop according to Chairman Ron Fowler
I think I’ve told the world that I’m not a fan of the — as Tony Gwynn used to say the baby poop brown and the yellow uniforms — but I think there is some brown that is very, very classy and we’ll see what the market tells us but it’s two years away before we can do anything but the process is you have to go through with baseball so it’ll probably be the 2020 season before we see anything.Padres Chairman Ron Fowler
The Mets would like to trade for Josh Harrison but are not particularly enthusiastic about giving Brandon Nimmo up for him
Josh Harrison by the way, is the newest in what seems like a quickly growing list of players who believe they have the right to be traded to a winning team if their friends are traded. When I was checking out his Twitter page I found this:
Baseball is a business and I understand that trades are part of the business. While I love this game, the reality is that I just lost two of my closest friends in the game. Cole and Cutch were not just friends, they were the best pitcher and best position player on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, I am the most tenured member of the Pirates, I want to win, I want to contend, I want to win championships in 2018, 2019 and beyond.Josh Harrison

Amed Rosario is already in Florida working on his plate discipline. Last season he struck out 49 times while only taking three walks in 170 plate appearances which was good for an AVG/OBP of .248/.271 ugh
Adrian Gonzalez should be first in line to take the first base job for the Mets to start the season while Dominic Smith begins 2018 at Triple-A Las Vegas. Good luck with that Mets, Gonzo was riddled with injuries last season
Cardinals chairman Bill Dewitt Jr spoke to Brian Stull on closers:
Closers are not guarantees. Year to year, you can see someone who has pitched well as a closer for two years in a row, and then all of a sudden he gets a long-term contract. That doesn’t mean the contract prevented him from being a good closer. It’s a hard job. You go over the history of closers, and it’s not particularly guaranteed that you’re going to get longevity, which you think you’ll get out of a starting pitcher.
