Players to Trade For:
Quarterbacks:
Andrew Luck (IND) People should be getting tired of Luck not having a high number of stats. While I think he’s just getting the rust off, I don’t think he looks too terrible as the starting quarterback in Indianapolis. It’s only a matter of time until he gets back to looking like a star in this league again. I’d trade for him now if you need help at quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) I think many people drafted Jimmy G with the expectations of Tom Brady like numbers, and while I do think he will become a very good quarterback in this league, he’s still very young. At twenty-six, other than starting for some games when Brady was suspended, the 49ers are his first team to take over as the starting quarterback. He came into San Francisco late into the season last year and ended up only starting two games in 2017. I only think things will start to look up for him this season. Get him now from another owner that is getting frustrated with his first two games. In fact, if you have Mahomes you could get Garoppolo back in the trade with a first-round running back.
Running Backs:
Tevin Coleman (ATL) Devonta Freeman is going to be out for at least a month going forward. This gives Coleman every opportunity to start for the Falcons. He will produce on this team. He’s a very good runner that hasn’t had too many opportunities as the starter in Atlanta, playing behind Freeman. This is Coleman’s team in 2019 when Freeman becomes a free agent, so look for Coleman to take over going forward. You may have to pay a little more to get Coleman from another owner, but his stock is only going to increase each week Freeman is out.
Nick Chubb (CLE) Chubb’s value should be very low with owners in most of your leagues. You may have a little more difficulty trading with a Carlos Hyde/Nick Chubb owner. So I would just avoid those owners because they’ll ask for a little more in return. You should be able to trade with every other owner, especially after we’ve seen how Cleveland’s offense has been run lately.
Corey Clement (PHI) With Jay Ajayi’s bad back in week two, we could be looking at a change of the guard very soon. Ajayi’s a very good running back, with too many injuries over his career in the NFL. Clement’s a very good runner, who should eventually take over as the lead back on the Eagles. Of all the Eagles that I targeted this season, only Clement and Aghlor were the players I targeted. Get Clement now before he comes the starter.
Aaron Jones (GB) Jones has been absent because of his suspension from the NFL the last two weeks. After what we saw from Jamaal Williams over the last couple of games, it’s pretty safe to say that Jones will be starting going forward. Get him now before his stock rises too high in trades.
Wide Receivers:
Chris Hogan (NE) Obviously, this would’ve been a better trade option had he not scored two touchdowns on Sunday in Jacksonville. I’m hoping though, that Hogan owners will overreact to the Josh Gordon trade, and think Hogan will see less opportunity, while also view Edelman’s return in a few weeks from his suspension. Use that overreaction to target Hogan owners. Hogan should only see better coverage with Gordon now retaining tighter coverage for New England.
Josh Gordon (NE) Yes, we’re going back to back Patriot receivers (maybe we should go a third wide receiver with Julian Edelman). Anyways, I’d look to trade for Gordon if you can get him without giving away to much. There are still people that think he’s not responsible enough to play for the Patriots. I’m sure the first thing the staff did with Gordon, was to sit him down and lay out the ropes for him in New England. So, he knows what to expect if he doesn’t show respect to his coaches or plays games with the team. While at the same point, Gordon realizes the opportunity that has been given to him in New England. He is going to want to win for the team and will leave everything out on the field. Gordon has tremendous talent and will live up to the hype that was given to him in Cleveland.
Amari Cooper (OAK) Cooper’s had two good back to back games. You might be able to get him for lower value this week, from an owner that’s still frustrated with his stats from week one.10 receptions for 116 yards against a tough defense in Denver, is hard to duplicate.
Tight Ends:
George Kittle (SF) Kittle just missed out of having a great game on Sunday. I would target him if you need a tight end this week. He has a decent schedule this week against the Kansas City Chiefs, and a few other games in October. He is Jimmy G’s safety blanket in the red zone, and as long as he can stay healthy, has a chance to produce for the 49ers.
Players to Trade:
Quarterbacks:
Patrick Mahomes (KC) Now is the time to trade Mahomes in leagues. His stock is very high right now and should be able to draw you back a first-round running back. While he does have a favorable schedule, it’s only a matter of time until Head Coach Andy Reid remembers that he has Kareem Hunt on his roster.
Alex Smith (WAS) I don’t think Alex is a great QB and while you may not get much of value for him in most trades, it’s possible that people are still looking at last seasons stats. One more terrible week and any value will be gone.
Running Backs:
Phillip Lindsay (DEN) Now is the time to trade this Bronco. Head Coach Vance Joseph has still not decided on a starting running back for Denver this season. Sharing carries in week two between Lindsay and Royce Freeman. While I think Lindsay is the better running back in Denver, he may offer more value in trades, especially with the uncertainty of his role. Everyone is so high on him and there’s a chance his value could decline if Freeman is given more opportunities. The Denver running game is a situation to avoid for 2018.
Carlos Hyde (CLE) Carlos is a mirror image of the runner he was in 2017 for the San Francisco 49ers. It’s only a matter of time until Nick Chubb takes over, either through an injury or as a late replacement in the third quarter. One big game from Chubb is all it takes for Hyde to take a role as the backup in Cleveland. Trade Hyde now, if you don’t own Chubb on rosters.
Wide Receivers:
Jarvis Landry (CLE) Landry is a phenomenal slot receiver, but the problem is that Cleveland isn’t using him in that role this season. We may need one more week to see if that role continues and if it does there’s no point in keeping him on your rosters. Landry isn’t the fastest player on the team, so why does the team use him more as an outside receiver? It’s Cleveland, so who knows what we’re to expect.
Tight End:
Jimmy Graham (GB) Jimmy is basically nonexistent in this offense and I think his level of play has dropped tremendously since his injury in Seattle, and coming from the Saints. Use his performance on Sunday to help ease the trade to a Graham lover. Trade him now, before his value goes back down.
