Phil’s Fanduel Picks 04/23

We have eight games this afternoon on the main MLB slate at FanDuel. A cursory glance at the over under totals tells me Vegas are expecting a bunch of runs this afternoon.

There doesn’t seem to be any major weather issues today but always be sure and check the weather updates. A good site for that is this one.

Starting Pitching Options for Sunday

Probably the best option today would be Indians SP Danny Salazar ($10,100) against a White Sox offense with a 25 percent strikeout rate, .245 wOBA and wRC+ of just 55. Just last week Salazar had his best outing of the season with 49 FanDuel points and is averaging 42.3 FanDuel points per game this season and 39 points when he pitches on the road.

Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriquez ($7300) has a good opportunity this afternoon against a Baltimore Orioles offense with a 25 percent strikeout rate, .282 wOBA and wRC+ of 81 against left handers this season. Rodriquez is striking out 32.6 percent of the hitters he’s faced this season, 3.72 SIERA and 3.79 xFIP this season while averaging 20.3 FanDuel points per game.

Detroit Tigers SP Michael Fulmer ($9000) has a good opportunity this afternoon against a Minnesota Twins offense with a 21 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .306 and wRC+ of 98 against right handed pitchers this season. Fulmer has struck out 21 percent of the batters he’s faced this season, 3.71 SIERA and xFIP of 3.79 this season while averaging 34 FanDuel points per game and 28 points per game on the road this season.

If a cheap punt is what you are looking for Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin ($5500) has a good opportunity today against an Atlanta Braves offense with a 22 percent strikeout rate, .301 wOBA and wRC+ of 87 against right handers this season. Eflin has a 19.1 percent strikeout rate, 5.26 SIERA and 5.66 xFIP in 2017 and scored 21 FanDuel points in his only start this season against the Mets. It’s risky but sometimes you have to take risks if you want to win big.

Possible Stacking Options

I would consider stacking Chicago Cubs players Anthony Rizzo ($4200), Kris Bryant ($4100) and Kyle Schwarber ($3600) today against Cincinnati Reds right hander Bronson Arroyo. Arroyo has a 13 percent strikeout rate, 4.98 SIERA and 5.15 xFIP this season. It’s a pricey stack but could pay off big today.

Stacking New York Yankees bats against the Pirates Ivan Nova might be a good thing today. I like Aaron Judge ($3500), Jacoby Ellsbury ($3400) and Brett Gardner ($3100) look pretty good to me today. Nova has a 10 percent strikeout rate, 4.05 SIERA and 3.99 xFIP so far this season.

You should also consider stacking Houston Astros bats against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese ($7200). Jose Altuve ($4000), Josh Reddick ($2800) and Carlos Correa ($3600) are the bats I’m considering today. Andriese has a 20.3 percent strikeout rate, 3.85 SIERA and 3.68 xFIP so far this season.

Phil’s Top Three Plays for Sunday!

Cleveland Indians 1B Edwin Encarnacion ($3600) has a nice opportunity today against White Sox SP Derek Holland ($6300). Encarnacion has a .333 wOBA and wRC+ of 118 against lefties this season while Holland allows 1.32 bombs per nine innings and a 5.17 xFIP against right handed hitters this season.

Atlanta Braves OF Matt Kemp ($3700) has a good opportunity today against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin. Kemp has a .431 wOBA and wRC+ of 173 against righties this season while Eflin has a 9.10 xFIP against right handed bats so Kemp might have a fun afternoon today.

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts ($4400) has a good opportunity this afternoon against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman ($7100). This season Betts has a wOBA of .382 and wRC+ of 150 against right handers while Gausman strikes out 16 percent of the right handed bats he faces and has a 4.94 xFIP against righty’s season.
