Injury Updates

Mike Trout not only heads to the disabled list for the first time ever but also needs surgery on the torn ligament in his thumb. Expect him to be out for the next six to eight weeks. The Angels are in deep trouble without Trout, kinda like your Fantasy Baseball team if you own Trout.

The Angels: 27th in OPS 22nd in HR 27th SLG 26th in AVG Mike Trout: 2nd in OPS 2nd in HR 2nd in SLG 7th in AVG

Taijuan Walker will throw in a simulated game today and then have one more before he can rejoin the team, but I don’t get the point since he hit the disabled list for a blister and the last thing a guy should do is pitch with a healing blister.

Pablo Sandoval is considered fully healthy but stuck on a rehab assignment at Triple-A until further notice. The Sox want to “see where he is at” after he plays all nine innings in couple more games. They probably just didn’t want him in the lineup as they face three lefties this week.

Did you even have time to activate Gregory Polanco from his last injury? Good, because he had to be carted off the field with a sprained ankle last night.

Wilson Ramos is right on track as he took 20-pitches from behind the plate yesterday and will participate in an extended spring training game today.

Team News

The Mariners have made more than 80 player moves, including the use of 12 starting pitchers.

The Dodgers have won their last nine of eleven and 18 of 26 in May. They trail the Rockies by a half game in the National League West after scoring 149 runs this month. Dodgers relievers have allowed only six hits over 19 2/3 during their current five game winning streak.

The Dodgers have sent 21 players to the DL so far this season, including six starting pitchers.

Reds starting pitchers couldn’t make it through three innings seven times in 50 games. Today the Reds throw out their tenth starter. (They have nothing on the Mariners though.)

The Reds top prospect is already on the 40-man roster. Starting pitcher Luis Castillo is 1-3 with a 3.11 ERA in 10 starts for Double-A Pensacola.

The Rockies rookie starting pitchers are the first in 80 years to get 12 combined wins in one month, and the fact that they pitch half the time at the biggest band box in the majors, makes it even better.

A’s hitters have double digit strikeouts in half of their games this season. They also lead the majors with 51 errors in 50 games.

An Orioles starting pitcher finally got a win last night after 17 straight games. They started May winning six of their first seven games, and are 4-13 since. Dylan Bundy has three of the six total wins by Orioles starters this month.

White Sox pitchers rank third in the American League with a 3.67 ERA, 54 points better than the league average, 4.21. Their bullpen ranks second in the A.L. with a 2.48 ERA

The Cubs are only trailing by 1.5 games in their division. Lucky for them.

Player News

Cody Bellinger hit his ninth home run in May, which ties him for the most home runs by any Dodgers rookie in their first month. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball since calling him up, 23-9.

Randal Grichuk was sent to High-A Palm Beach yesterday after batting .222 with five hits and 14 strikeouts in his last 37 at bats, 11 games.

Sandy Alderson said Robert Gsellman will head to the bullpen when Steven Matz and Seth Lugo return after one more rehab. This was right before he became the fourth consecutive Mets starter to complete at least six innings.

Alderson also said that Yoenis Cespedes might return from injury as the designated hitter on either June 5th or June 6th in Texas. This comes three days after Alderson said:

The Mets will talk less often and with much less specificity about their injuries.Alderson on May 25

I couldn’t makes this stuff up

Jameson Taillon felt good after making his first minor league rehab start since undergoing surgery due to testicular cancer. He will have his next bullpen session Tuesday

Devon Travis leads the majors with 18th doubles. He also leads the league with 19 extra base hits in May

Francisco Liriano earned two runs over 4 ⅓ innings at Triple-A and penciled in to start against the Yankees on Friday

Eric Young Jr. got the call to replace Mike Trout on the roster, and got the start over Ben Revere in left field. He stole two bases the first day. Join now, ‘The Ben Revere owner support group.’

Kyle Schwarber was taken out of the leadoff spot and he is still not hitting. He is 2 for 20 with eight strikeouts since the move.

Ian Happ was given the opportunity for an at bat in the eighth and swiftly struck out for the fifth time in his last six.

Marwin Gonzalez has yet to make enough plate appearances to be considered a qualified hitter, but he leads the Astros with 32 RBI and the American League with a .381 AVG in May.

Wilmer Flores is hitting .393 with 11 RBI and a .909 OPS in 60 at bats in May. He is even getting at bats against lefties

Only one out of the 121 pitchers with more than 40 innings ranks within the top ten in velocity, Michael Fulmer.

I wore my Mets hat out the first night I was in Philadelphia, and when I told that to GoFigure, she said, "Mets in Philly, no good. Philly is a total homer town, home teams only. If you aren't sporting home colors, there's no good interaction." Then I tried to talk to a girl at […]

Cam Bedrosian will not be activated today as expected because he is ‘not ready’ to face live batters. Is this guy soft or what is the deal? Just when you started to like Gerardo Parra, he hurts his neck and sits somewhere in between the bench and the disabled list. Expect him to hit the […]

Last week Pete Mackanin benched Maikel Franco for two games, but instead of talking to him, he waited for Franco to approach him. Last year he did the same thing to Odubel, who never showed up to talk about it because he thought he was getting rest. WTF kind of communication is this?

Joe Maddon isn’t ‘ready’ to give up on Ian Happ even though he is 2 for his last 21 and struck out four times last night. Is this the same as not giving up on Kyle Schwarber as the leadoff batter? That worked out well. The question is when, not if they will give up […]
